Mosaic Monday: Well Sweep Herb Farm
This week I visited Well Sweep Herb Farm with my friend Toni Ann. It's about an hour's drive from my house, through some really beautiful countryside in New Jersey. There are chickens and sheep, and a beautifully designed herb garden filled with everything from angelica to... well, whatever begins with the letter Z. :) I had to restrain myself from buying too many plants; I already have several that need to be planted. I did buy a myrtle, a basil and a succulent, which I hope to avoid killing on my windowsill this winter. :) If you are looking for a source for herb plants, check out their website. They have a tremendous selection.

Mosaic Monday: Bittersweet
The fields are beautiful here at the end of summer -- filled with goldenrod and purple asters and tawny grasses. I always feel that it is a bittersweet time -- as much as I look forward to the cooler weather, I know that I will miss the warmth of the sun and these golden fields as the year reaches it's end.
I've been watching the movie Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close while I edit and prepare this post. Have you seen it? It's about a boy whose father is killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11. This past anniversary at first appeared to be a quiet one, and then it seemed as if the entire Middle East was burning. I'm not going to get political, and I hope you won't either. I just wanted to say this -- hug your kids, tell your spouse you love them. And say a prayer for peace. xoxo

Mosaic Monday: Happy September
How is your September going so far? We had a crazy first day of September, beginning with my daughter calling to say those words that parents dread: "Don't worry, but I'm in the hospital." We made the hour's drive to an inner-city hospital close to her school, to find her in extreme intestinal distress. All told, she spent 14 hours in the emergency room, before coming home with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis. During that time, she was checked for appendicitis and gall stones. We witnessed three fights between patients and security, police and fire personnel, and saw more than our share of blood and worse... It was crazy.
But... we are home and she is on the mend. And so, I thought some calm and peaceful images were called for. This is the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, about a 20-minute drive from our house. I recently shot a family photo session there, and took the time to record some images of the garden itself as well.
There are several different gardens here, including a beautiful formal garden near the mansion, and a wonderful small potager. I'm not sure how much yield you would get from the corn growing up the bamboo lattice, but it sure looks pretty! :)
Just a note for you Photshoppers out there -- the vintage feel to these photos was achieved with the use of a free PS action from Yellow Sky Actions. You can find them on Facebook here.
