Don't Let This Woman Loose With a Paintbrush

I think I already told you that I'm a frustrated artist. I don't think I've picked up a paintbrush in years. Which is why I don't quite understand how I managed to spend last Monday painting a mural on my pantry doors.

It had been planned, sort of. I'd seen a beautiful mural in a house tour a few years back, so the idea was percolating somewhere below the surface. You know how you see something, and you say "I could do that." Dangerous thought.

My pantry used to be a bedroom closet with sliding doors. When we took down a wall to expand the kitchen, we turned the closet into a pantry, fully expecting to replace the doors with something a bit more decorative -- maybe some beautiful architectural salvage.

But then a woman with a paintbrush happened along. Moi. My husband, bless his heart, came home from a meeting in Chicago late Monday night, took one look at it, and said "Wow, that looks great!" Then he saw my hesitation, and asked, "Do you like it?"

Honestly, I'm not sure yet. I think it will grow on me. I think.

  2. It looks great Mary. I agree to give it time to grow on you as you did a wonderful job on it. Guess you have become that aspiring artist you dreamed about. Are there shelves in the pantry? I am just sitting here wondering what kind of treasures are inside there too. :)

  3. Thanks, guys -- you're so sweet! Heidi, there are shelves in there, but it is a food pantry, so unless you think cereal is a treasure, there's not much to see! :)

    Oh, and I remember the time we all posted the inside of our pantries and you'd be surprised at how great some of them were. I have a feeling the inside of yours is all organized and pretty.

  12. Oh, you did a lovely job. I have painted murals and this is really nicely done. We are always our own worst critics. It is perfectly created in proportion to the scale of the room and the colors are soft and lovely. Karen

    I also like your pitcher holding brushes. I do the same with my brushes. A pretty vintage thing is so good as a holder, don't you agree?!

  19. Your mural looks fantastic! When my children were little, we painted their bathroom with a zoo mural - complete with hot dog stand and balloon seller :-} It's a bit addictive- so I can see you viewing walls as bare canvases and painting many more murals :-}

    I'm the same way with my art so I completly understand how you feel. I'm working on a project combining a drawing I did with some sewing so hopefully I will like it enough to put it on my blog.
