My Show & Tell

Happy Friday, dear bloggers! Just a little show & tell here today. I found these two little pieces at the thrift store. They are about two inches high. I don't know what it is, but I have a soft spot in my collecting heart for little things.

I think I was drawn to the carving, too -- as you can see, it is quite intricate for such small pieces. I'm thinking that they are perhaps made of celluloid? Or ivory? Although they are pitcher shaped, they are solid pieces -- decorative only.

Do you all do this? Buy things that you cannot identify and know nothing about, just because they "speak" to you?

Do I sound as crazy as I think I do?

Hey, it's the end of the week, right? ;)

Linking to Cindy's Show & Tell Friday. Thanks so much, Cindy, for being such a great host!

  5. They are precious and no Mary you are not crazy I am drawn to things that have some meaning to me I have long forgotten but when I see them I feel a tug at my heart.
I have noticed especially that as I get older I want to surround myself that remind me of past happy events in my family's history.
Those little pitchers are really pretty and do look like ivory or celluloid. Lovely!

  7. I do the same thing. I don't care about what it is or where it came from as much as I care about how much it speaks to me. I only buy what I love. Carla

  10. It sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to do - and if you look around my house you'll see that I ascribe to the philosophy of 'buy it if you love it and you'll find a way to live with it.'

  11. What a beautiful photo, Mary! I love black backgrounds. I don't pick up as much as I used to...I keep trying to tell myself that I am trying to clear things out rather than accumulate...sometimes I just don't listen to myself:)

  17. Mary, could these pieces be carved soapstone? They certainly resemble such.
I don't know how you could tell for sure, though.
