I just wanted to share a few more images from Alcatraz with you today. Although the gardens were lovely, there were parts of the prison itself that were starkly beautiful in a very different way. No bright colors and soft petals here, only nails and rust and stone and wood. And a sense of emptiness that is somehow beautiful as well...
Hi Mary, I love old windows and doors. I expect these doors could tell a good story if they could speak!!Jackie in Surrey, UK.x
ReplyDeleteThese are incredible, Mary. I am in love with your San Francisco series.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are just stunning. Hope to rejoin Mosaic Monday this month. Hope Shutter Sisters has the calendar templates again this year.

i've heard Alcatraz is beautiful - I wonder what you might have seen from the island?
ReplyDeleteWell, I got a cheap thrill. I have always wanted to go there. Never dreamed it was so interesting, and what nice gardens.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.

I knew we should have got off the boat and onto the shore when we were down there. I am sure it looks much nicer when you know you can leave any time you want.
ReplyDeleteDoors and windows are one of my favorite photo subjects too.
The doors are amazing. Every door has her own color and sign. Great shots !
ReplyDeletejust so lovely! your "eye" is wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Kit
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful photographs, Mary! The textures and colors.... and, you got them just right. Doors - why do we love them so well?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors in those doors. And wonderful texture. If only they could talk!
ReplyDeleteThese doors are imposing yet curiously inviting. I want to go through but you can see they were built for a purpose. Who went through the doors and what is their story. Fantastic set of photos Mary. It is a real pleasure to stop by and see your work.
ReplyDeleteInteresting colors too... Really nice post.

These are beautiful - they remind me so much of a posting I did last year about doors and windows in Morocco. Have a terrific Labour Day Weekend.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteI like the focus on doors in this. I've seen a couple of posters featuring doors of a particular city and always found them very interesting.

Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteLove these doors! #1 is my all time favorite. I have a thing for old doors and windows. Oh, the storys they could tell. Last year we vacationed in Door County, WI. While visiting an art gallery my hubby spied a picture and said, "Jann, here's one you will like." It's a long narrow picture of about 8 doors found in WI. He knows me only too well. Bought and shipped home, I love it!
I like the colour of the first door, at least they add colour to the starkness of the brick and concrete.

I grew up in California, and visited San Francisco often, but have never been to Alcatraz. I have missed something. Thanks for showing a bit of it!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you don't concern yourself with new followers, but I am one!
Thanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Dimple! Thanks for following!
