Saturday was my birthday, and I spent it in New York city with my husband and kids.  It was snowing, and the city was bustling.  We went to the Whitney, and the Frick, and I took absolutely no pictures.  ;)

So today, I thought I would share just a few of the many still life photos that I shot last year.  I can't wait till spring, and I get to visit some gardens again.  In the meantime, we are getting lots of exercise shoveling snow, and I have to enjoy my flowers indoors...  :)

Mosaic Monday: Pomegranate

This is what happens when it's dark and grey and snowy, and I'm stuck in the house with my camera. I make a mess on my old cutting board, and when I'm done I have to google how to eat a pomegranate.  :)

I've always loved the art of still life, especially the 18th century masters, with their dark backgrounds and very real and sometimes messy foregrounds.  Lately, I've also been fascinated by food photography.  In fact, I've got a board on Pinterest with my favorites.  If you'd like to follow me on Pinterest, you can find me here.

Most of you probably know how I get every winter -- just short of laying around in my jammies, with chocolate stains all over my face.  LOL  This has been a strange winter weather-wise so far -- we've already had at least four "snow events" and a few days of bone-chilling cold.

Yeah, well.

I thought some flower therapy was in order this week, so here are just a few of the many, many flower images that I have shot over the years.  I've got a pot of tiny daffodils waiting on the kitchen counter to take their turn before my lens this week...  Until then, enjoy.

"The earth goes down into the vale of grief..."

Winter has always seemed to me like a couple of months of darkness to be got through on the way to spring...  I'm trying, this year, to get outside and appreciate the beauty a little more.  I keep telling myself that each day will get just a little longer, and that spring will come...
