What's New In The Kitchen

I realize it's been all flowers all the time here lately, so I thought I'd show you a few pictures of my favorite kitchen things.

Here is one of a pair of old handpainted German bread plates.  They were 50 cents each at one of my favorite thrift stores.  How could I resist?

This old chippy painted tin is one of my favorites, with it's motif of birds, nests and eggs.  The small Fenton  vase was found at a rummage sale, and the green tole tray in the background was a bargain at $16.

Here is an old tole tray I found at the thrift store a while back.  I tend to look for green and gold to fill my kitchen, since my cabinets are a sort of taupey -- yellowy color, and my wallpaper is a green and cream check.

And finally, this cute little yellow creamer with the orange flowers was a more recent thrift store find.  It shares the mantel above my range with some turnip salt and pepper shakers, and the chipped old painted tole tray.

I hope you have enjoyed our little kitchen tour.  It will probably be more flowers tomorrow!

I had such a great time reading your thoughts on gender and presidential politics yesterday.  Thank you so much for sharing!  Dare I hope that we will have a campaign that does not "use religion to divide us, and patriotism to bludgeon us," as Obama said last night?

  3. Love your kitchen stuff, especially that creamer. Is it an orphan? I have an entire collection of orphan creamers - those that have lost their sugar bowl.

    Beautiful things Mary.

  4. I enjoyed reading your post and comments yesterday and since another Janet posted a comment I thought I could slide by without commenting. I agree with today's sentiments...let the election be as civilized as possible ( for a change).

Oh Lord, I wish we could have a president better than Obama or McCain.

  10. I really enjoyed your post yesterday and reading through the comments.
It proves to be an interesting next few months doesn't it?
I have voted for Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Protestants
Jews and Catholics. I have voted for men and women, young and not so young. Just to name a few! It frightens me when I hear people rallying behind someone because of a particular faith or gender or color.
I so hope it will be a civilized race about the issues.

Here is one silly thought...Grace has no idea what parties are or about color, race or gender. We were taking about how she will be hearing so much in the next few months about the election. She thought about it for a bit and said, "Mommy? I know who I am voting for. I will vote for Obama."
I asked her what she had heard to make up her mind.
"It is easy! Obama. It is easy to spell!"
There you have it, the new campaign slogan. *laugh*

And I LOVE all of your kitchen pretties. The tole trays are just wonderful. How I would love to visit your home. It is magical.

    Love,
    Sue

  13. Well, I personally can look at flowers every day! I visited Goodwill myself today. But here they seem to price pretty high for a thrift store. They're more on the scale of an antique mall. I'm scouting tole trays too!
