Dusk, and dinner on the deck -- my favorite time of day. The heat of the afternoon has dissipated (somewhat) and the sun is slowly edging under the trees. All the cares of the day have fled, and we just sit and relax. We eat a leisurely meal, talking about our day and lounging back in our chairs until the light fades and the fireflies come out.
One of the things I love about dusk is looking in through the windows to our house, all lit up and welcoming. It just gives me a warm feeling inside, to see our comfortable rooms all aglow.
Sometimes I think that it is a very primitive sense of security that I feel. The peace that comes from knowing that we have warmth and food and shelter for the night. Does that make any sense to you?
Mary, I know just what you mean. It is like a cozy blanket to keep you warm.
ReplyDeleteBut, what would be coming out around here this time of year is mosquitoes.
Yes. We have a wonderful secret garden that would be perfect for such lovely dinners, but like Beverly, we have mosquitos. They are the size of Smart Cars. That doesn't make for a relaxing dinner.

Yes I know exactly what you mean !!
ReplyDeleteWe also have those pesky mosquitoes, but I've found the OFF lantern and coil when used together keeps them at bay. They really work ;) We sat out last night until almost 10pm.
Kathy :)
Sounds so relaxing

I really love the way you expressed this. I love to sit out on my porch and look inside the house! I don't worry about mosquitoes too much if on the back porch since it is screened.
ReplyDeleteI love you photos.
I completely agree, and love that feeling of looking in at our cozy rooms, too. Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteI love your photos! The center one is especially appealing. Very warm and welcoming.

It makes perfect sense to me and makes me want to get my deck back together very soon!
ReplyDeleteIt makes perfect sense to me too. I love the cozy feeling of looking inside the warmly lit rooms, but then the sensible side says " turn off the lights if you are not inside", ahem or maybe that was the hubbie nagging me!
ReplyDeleteJanet
That makes complete sense to me! I always love looking at my house from the outside, when the windows are lit up and glowing.
ReplyDeleteSo cozy - Mary. I love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel. Your pictures look beautiful. The few into your home looks so warm and inviting. I love your dining room chandelier!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary!
ReplyDeleteI have that feeling often! (atleast when I can get out of the hosue and look back to it!) Most of the time at dusk I am in the throws of putting the kids to sleep. Not an easy task! But well worth it, to be able to sit and enjoy the calm of falling night.
Lovely pictures! Thank you!
xoxo~

I know what you mean Mary...I don't ask for much...just a roof over my head and food...and a house filled with love.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying your summer.
Hugs,
Robin
I thank God for these thimgs every day.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. We too, enjoy our meals on the patio and the great breezes that come sailing through. We don't have any fireflies in these parts, but then again, we don't have problems with mosquitoes either. I hope you have a most enjoyable evening.
ReplyDeleteOur lives seem to be so hectic--even in these "empty nest" years. The evenings disappear without really breathing in their beauty. Thanks for the photos and thoughts.
ReplyDeleteBecause now. . . .
I believe we will eat our yummy tuna salad on the "Breezeway Verana" tonight---I will allow the lights in our house to softly spill out a bit on our outdoor room. Then, I will light one of the vintage lanterns a friend just gave me and lean back and take in the evening.
And I will owe it all to you!
Mary,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful setting to have a bite to eat..thanks for sharing your favorite time of the day.

Oh Mary, what a wonderful place to have dinner. Sometimes we see the best when we look from another viewpoint..like looking into the house at night. We just finished a concrete stamped courtyard which added to the new addition we put on two years ago. I love being out there at night and looking in. How peaceful!
ReplyDeletePeggy from PA
It makes perfect sense sweetie as I often feel the same way with my home too. Security is a wonderful feeling! Lovely photo's Mary, beautiful home.

I also love sitting out on my deck and glancing into my windows! The lamps are on and it looks so inviting! I know exactly what you are talking about. There are days I eat all three meals out on the deck. Everything looks better and tastes better when eaten outdoors.

ReplyDeleteLike wise here, lots of mosquitoes, so we don't get to enjoy eating at our lovely patio. During the day we sit out but when the sun sets, you had better run. Love you table inside and out.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Hugs;

Ohhhhh I love to look at my home from the outside in the evenings....I often go outside just to see how it looks to those walking or driving by.... I would only admit to that in blogland.. I'm sure my "real" friends would think I'm crazy...
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean. I love to look at houses with the little candles in the windows too. Makes the house so warm and cozy looking.
I think I will prepare a meal for just me and my hubby on our deck also.
You are such a wonderful new find for me! Your pictures are magazine meterial and that pic at the end of the day is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to discover more from you in the days to come.
