On Saturday our local volunteer fire company celebrated it's one-hundredth anniversary with a parade. All the equipment was lovingly shined, including the antique hose trucks and vintage ambulance. They were joined by neighboring fire companies, the high school marching band, several bagpipe bands and a local private school drum corps. The weather was beautiful, the parade route was lined with appreciative families, and there were cheers all around. :)

Looks like a delightful parade. I love seeing the shinny fire engines too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful parade, hubby is a firefighter here in Southern Ontario. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI swear, you won't find a more proud people than the ones in the fire department! Really, have you ever noticed how much time they spend cleaning their trucks and gear and fire station? It's an addiction. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLook at that old ambulance. Yikes! What a fun time Mary!
Mary, this looks like such wonderful fun. 100 years! YeeHaw!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful, Mary! I know the neighborhood must be so proud...100 years of volunteering! Have a great week!...hugs...Debbie

ReplyDeleteMary, a wonderful celebration and parade. I am thankful for our volunteer fire dept and the firefighters.
ReplyDeleteParades are so much fun! Pictures remind me of the ones we had when we lived before every Labor Day! Thanks for the memories! Cathy
ReplyDeleteSmall town parades are the best. Thanks for sharing and thanks for hosting again this week.
ReplyDeleteI practically grew up in our town's firehouse! So I am definitely proud of volunteer firemen. I used to love riding in both the vintage and the new equipment. I also liked sliding down the fire pole! For my dad's funeral, the department took his casket to the cemetery on the back of the firetruck. What a tribute...
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your pics- brought back many memories, Mary!
What a proudful thing this is..
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful photos, as usual. You do such fine work with them.
We always take all the grands to the 4th of July parade..this year it was raining cats and dogs..heavy heavy downpour and we missed it. :(
Looking forward to the next one, tho.:)
Oh how fun. I love that old firetruck. Your pictures are fabulous. Love them. What a fun time. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLove a parade! Looks like a very grand day :)
ReplyDeleteYou've captured that parade beautifully. I'm impressed that glare on the glass in the first photo didn't cause you any problems. I can see that bearded face on the driver so clearly.
ReplyDeleteA delightful post. We have our firefighter vehicles in all our parades too. Don't you just love it. Great photos too.

ReplyDeleteWell Mary, hubby was walking past my office when he spied a shiny firetruck on your post.
ReplyDeleteRecently retired from the Toronto Fire Dept. the sight of a red truck still has him wanting to have a look!
Thanks for sharing the parade, the dalmation doesn't seem to want for attention.

Beautiful mosaic of fireman's parade.
ReplyDeleteI do love a parade. They certainly shined those trucks up nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us these great pictures. No wonder every little boy wants to be a fireman at one time or another. when we lived in a small town in BC, the firemen and policemen planned a Christmas party for the children. The highlight was the ride on the firetruck. Luckily my children were small enough that I had to go with them. The 1931 truck is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary
ReplyDeleteWow! 100 years is a wonderful record for a volunteer firesquad! My brohter served on the NYFD for 30 years.
♥ Pat
What a terrific celebration. Your photos are wonderful! Looks like it was great fun to watch.

My blog is now at Typepad.
The new address is http://backporchmusings.typepad.com
Really wonderful post, Mary! Like a slice of America!

ReplyDeleteWonderful parade honoring wonderful people. It sure looks like it was a lot of fun. MB
ReplyDeleteFantastic post Mary. I really do like that the trucks and ambulances have been taken so good care of. They look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great celebration of all the work of the emergency services. My son is a Metropolitan Police Officer in London and I know the risks they take and these in the parade are volunteers so that is even better!. Looks like a great day with wonderful weather. Have a good week Mary, Jackie in Surrey, UK.
ReplyDeleteFabulous parade photos ... and magnificent machines on show!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and I love making mosaics. The mosaics I made this week aren't all that thrilling so I'm not linking to this week's party - I'm just visiting.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought - I really wish your party had thumbnails! Your blog is so visual and surprisingly, mosaics do come across on a thumbnail. They are such good teasers to make you want to click to see more and to help keep straight which you've seen and which you haven't. Regardless, I'll keep coming back to your fabulous blog!
My nephew is a volunteer firefighter. It is nice that your community came out to show your appreciation of these brave men and women. La
ReplyDeleteMary I just love this post as I love Dalmatians! We had one and I adored him. I loved seeing the pictures of those shiny Fire trucks too. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me and best wishes for a lovely week,
Natasha.
What a day to reminisce on. I love your music choice here, Mary. It's so soothing...like hearing my mother singing to me ♥
ReplyDeleteWonderful parade. I remember when the town I grew up in had the cadillac ambulance. They were also the funeral home. Sort of a conflict of interest, wouldn't you say? lol
ReplyDeletexoxo Nancy
Wonderful photos! I love those antique red firetrucks. Looks like it was a beautiful day for the parade.

Mr O and I were held up by a large parade of firetrucks and bands on Saturday...we never did find out why it was being held ...fun mosaic!
ReplyDeleteI probably would have cried all through this. Something about a parade and the firetrucks...I get choked up.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for hosting this great party! It is my second time joining and I am loving all of the great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteVanessa
I love these!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary!
ReplyDeleteI always cry like a dang fool at parades like this.
Those firemen and their trucks look so sharp.
God bless our volunteer firefighters. It is getting harder and harder for communities to attract enough of them. I think it's the last great and absolutely vital "do it yourself" civic service left.
And lots of blue and white at Second Chance? aaarrgghhhhhh!!!!! I must go.
I got a cute milk glass cake pedestal at GW yesterday, in the pouring rain -- just had to pop in on my way home!
