Mosaic Monday: Chinese Dogwood

It's been a bit of a busy week here, and somehow I totally forgot about Mosaic Monday!  But, better late than never, right?  So, here we go...

Our Chinese Dogwood tree was absolutely loaded with blossoms this year.  I guess maybe it was all the precipitation we had this winter?  Anyway, I'm so glad I got the chance to go out and shoot them while they lasted.  :)

Mosaic Monday: Hyde Park Rose Garden

Last year when my daughter and I went to London, the rose garden at Hyde Park was not quite in bloom yet.  This year, it was blooming with exuberant abandon.  The fragrance was amazing!  My family took a short break from our epic, eight-mile sightseeing hike to let me shoot a few photos.  :)  Such a beautiful garden!

Mosaic Monday: Kensington Gardens

So we took a last-minute trip to London at the beginning of June, and here are some photos from the Kensington Palace sunken gardens.  We stayed in a fabulous flat that we rented from onefinestay, located a few blocks from the palace.  I would highly recommend onefinestay -- they provided great customer service, and living in a flat for a week makes you feel like a native.  It was a wonderful experience!

I love the fact that anyone can walk right up to the gates of the palace in Kensington Park, too.  There were families picnicking, office workers walking through the park on their lunch hour, and tourists like us just enjoying the beautiful day.  We couldn't actually go in the sunken garden, but you could view it from above.  I do have some photos from the King's State Apartments in the palace itself.  I will share them at a later date.

Mosaic Monday: Lovely Spring

It's been a crazy busy spring here, between our little "weather event" and my daughter's college graduation, not to mention a weekend filled with three portrait sessions.

I feel like spring is passing me by.

I took a few minutes earlier in the week to take the camera out and shoot some of the flowers currently blooming in our garden.  We've got pink rhododendron and white azaleas, Siberian iris in both blue and white, and a shrub with little white, highly fragrant flowers.  I think it is sweet olive, but I'm not sure.  All I know is that it smells divine, and it's fragrance wafts in the bedroom window at night.

I love spring.

I'm going to take the next two weeks off to regroup, and to enjoy the rest of spring.  See you on June 15th.  :)

Mosaic Monday: Spring at Little Red House

First of all, thank you for your understanding and your concerns about our crazy weather last week.  We were very lucky that the three trees which landed on our roof did no lasting damage.  All together, we lost eleven trees, all in the same general location.  To say that our view to the east is markedly different is an understatement.  We were without power for seventeen hours, during which time both our battery backup sump pump and our generator were not working.  Luckily, we did not have enough rain to gather in the cellar.  So glad that is over!

We have white azaleas, lily of the valley and purple bugle flowering at the Little Red House right now.  The lily of the valley smells amazing.  Wild sweet olive shrubs are starting to bloom as well.  Earlier in the week I picked a few stems and placed them in one of my many milk glass containers.  Instant bouquet!  I love spring.  :)

No Mosaic Monday!

We just had some sort of microburst come through the neighborhood. The power is out and there are at least two trees currently gracing our roof. Everyone is fine, thank God, but I don't think I will be able to put up a Mosaic Monday tomorrow. I'm posting this from my phone. So I will say Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there, and I will see you all next week. :)

Mosaic Monday: Moss and Flowers

The advent of spring is always a happy time for me, but this year, after such a horrible winter, it has been nothing short of pure joy.  I have watched with fervent gratitude as every green shoot, every bud and every flower has appeared.  And, of course, I decided to make up a few still life creations.  I was inspired by my dear friend Katy Noelle to include some moss in these photos, along with spring flowers from the garden.  Happy Spring!
