Game On

OK, game on.  It's (past) time to fill the containers on my deck.  After yesterday's inspiration, I'm ready to rock.  So here are some raw materials, and my garden bag, filled with gloves and spades and fertilizer.  Oh, and coyote urine.  Did you see that?  Someone gave it to me (yes, it was actually a gift) to keep the deer away from my garden.  One problem, though.

Yep, you guessed it.

First up, Heliotrope.  Gorgeous color, beautiful leaves, and the most heavenly fragrance ever!

Next, some Gomphrena.  Aren't they the cutest things?  They are also great dried, although I have never tried to do it.  Maybe this year is the year...

Some tiny white Euphorbia, and cheerful bicolor Sweet Williams.  They are such a sweet cottage garden staple, and they smell divine, too.  They also tend to reseed from year to year, so I often find a few growing in my pots in early spring.  Don't you just love flowers that are so obliging?

Well, who doesn't like Petunias?  And white ones are so classic!

OK, here's a start...

And you will have to come back tomorrow to see the finished product!

If you get a chance, head on over to Kacey's blog, Wine on The Keyboard, and vote in the Photo of the Month contest.  Lots of fun photos to see...

  2. mental, the problem is that it smells EXACTLY like you would expect it to smell like... keeps the deer away, but also keeps everyone else away, too!

  6. Looks like you are very busy--we use the coyote urine here, too, as we get many deer. It does work! They hate the smell!

  9. I love that gomphrena, so happy and colorful. Mary, your garden bag is AWESOME. I'm going to have to make one. When I first looked at it I thought you had a water bottle in there. I thought oh Mary has something cool to sip on when it gets hot. HA. So....what if you had both the bottle of coyote urine AND water in your tote. ACCCCKKKKK!!! Can you just imagine making that mistake?

I don't have to purchase coyote urine....we have coyote who do the job for us. Here's a question for you. Just exactly how do they obtain that coyote urine. OK, I'll stop. It's too darn early in the morning for all these mental gymnastics.

  14. Isn't Heliotrope a neat word? And a pretty flower. We planted seeds this spring in some of our planters on the back deck...still waiting for them to do much. Geraniums in the front pots though. Love the white petunias.

We did have some great photos for the photo of the month contest this month, didn't we?

  16. Hmmm... I've sat here for the last five minutes trying to figure out how they hooked a catheter up to a wild coyote. It'll take me all day to get that picture out of my mind...

I'll just have to focus on those beautiful petunias! I love the white (container) on white (petunias). Really pretty!

(I know that in 5 minutes I'm going to regret this comment, so please feel free to delete it if you feel inclined, Mary.)
