Winter White

My kitchen is tres chic (much more so than I am!) in winter white this season. The covered pheasant tureen is a constant in our house, just moving from place to place with each season.

The milk glass is a favorite, too. I also display it in the dining room, where it catches the light. The goblet shown here was an antiques store find -- quite an adventure. The flowers are to preserve my sanity until spring.

This is the time of year when I would love an all-white decorating scheme, with sunlight pouring in through the windows. I guess I'm just craving the light!

The white Necco hearts are from my daughter -- she doesn't like that flavor, so she gives them to Mom. Luckily, they fit the color scheme. :)

Still Spring Dreaming

As I write this, the wind howls outside my window, and soon the crows will be calling to each other across a frozen landscape. But a sweet pink primrose lifts me from my winter sleep.

And it is a sort of sleep, this half-life I live from Christmas till the first bulb breaks through the just-warming ground. Do you ever feel that way? As though you are walking like a ghost through another's dream, not really here at all?

I know I am wasting a quarter of my life waiting for spring, but I feel as though I need it, as the bird needs the air. I need to feel the sun on my back, and the warm breeze caressing my cheek. I need to smell the earth, and to attend her labor as she bears fruit.

I need to see the promise of life anew.

And yes, I probably need to tweak my meds. :)

I'm currently using the picture above as my computer wallpaper, and it cheers me up no end. If any of you would like to use it as well, feel free.

Deja Tagged

Oh boy, I must be moving real slow because I keep getting tagged! :) This one is a Book Meme, and I've been tagged by Sherrill, at Cassandra's Lutradur and Lace Adventures. It sounds like fun, so here goes:

Here are the rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the next three sentences.

5. Tag five people.

Drum roll, please...

The nearest book is Venetia, a historical romance novel by Georgette Heyer. Here are the sentences:

"A Man of the Town! It is a -- a desecration to think of his so much as touching your hand! When I saw how he looked at you -- By God I was within ames-ace of planting him a facer!"

Well, that was fun, huh? I so wanted to cheat a little and "choose" a more erudite tome. But this one was really hysterical, wasn't it? Do I actually read this stuff?! You bet. Romance novels are like potato chips -- you can't eat just one. :) And I have to tag five people so...

Unless you consider it a desecration to be so much as touched by my (web) hand, consider yourself tagged!
Happy Saturday, dear bloggers!

Book Bling

Book.....bling?! Yes, a lot of old books have the most beautiful covers. Here are a few from the shelves at our Little Red House:

They don't really make books like this anymore, do they? Don't these beautiful covers just invite you in?

Happy reading, dear bloggers!

*******
Forgive me for not visiting all of you recently. My daughter has been sick, and my house is in dire need of cleaning, and all I want to do is bury my head in a book until spring. I will look forward to visiting you all over the weekend, when I'll have time to sit and chat. :)

Ooooh, A Package!

Don't you just love getting a package in the mail? Even though I know what's in this one, it's still a little like the excitement of opening a birthday gift, without the angst of feeling another year older. :)

So, shall we open it together? Don't you just love the little sticker? They don't put those on packages from Amazon!

Oh, what pretty wrapping! And look, some gift tags! I'll be using those soon, for Valentine's gifts. I'll save the ribbon, too. It always comes in handy.

Oh my gosh, isn't it beautiful? This lovely heart was handmade by Kathy, of Kathy's Cottage. I fell in love with it when I first saw it on her blog, and rushed over to her etsy shop to snap it up before anyone else could buy it! LOL It's embellished with some darling vintage buttons and jewelry, and a precious handmade charm.

Kathy, I love my heart! Please do stop by Kathy's shop, to see all her beautiful hearts, in an array of luscious fabrics.

Spring Is Here!

In my dreams, at least... Here is a small arrangement of flowers and robin's eggs, that helps me forget the wintry blasts outside. The smaller bowl with roses is a piece of thrifted Rosenthal. The cut crystal bowl was one of my mother's favorite pieces.

Spring is coming; I know it's coming.

Forgive me while I dream on...
