Inspiration

I guess this has turned out to be a week of posts about my kitchen. I didn't really plan it that way. In fact, I rarely plan much about the blog at all. I tend to take photographs and then build my posts around them. I know it would be much better to have a plan, but I just can't seem to do it that way. Inspiration is important to me, and you can't really plan for it. It just happens.

This is the carved tile that is centered in the backsplash behind our kitchen range. I had actually considered putting an antique fireback in there, but couldn't find one that fit in with my cheap renovation plans. And I wasn't entirely sure that it could be attached to wallboard without pulling down half the wall. So I went to Home Expo for some inspiration, and came home with this tile. And it turned out just fine. :)

Today is my daughter's eighteenth birthday. I can hardly believe it's possible. I would post a picture, but she won't let me near her with my camera. Happy birthday, Pookie! (Yeah, even though Mom can't embarrass you with a picture, she can still use your baby name. And no, you cannot get a tattoo for your birthday!)

I hope you will all consider joining me for Mosaic Monday. Mr. Linky will be up by 8:30pm Sunday night. Just a reminder for those of you who are new to the meme -- there is no set subject each week. You may create your mosaic on any subject that catches your fancy. I look forward to seeing your creativity!

  1. I like your rustic style tile, sort of has a Tuscany look to it.
Have a wonderful weekend, see you on Monday.

  2. Love the tile, Mary. Some day I am inviting myself over to see it for myself.

I hope I didn't just scare you terribly. I was only kidding, ok?

    Happy b-day to pookie!!

  6. Happy Birthday wishes to your daughter. I had to chuckle about her camera avoidance... My youngest turned 18 in September. Here is a post about her demeanor towards mom capturing that sweet lil' face for a post: http://gratefulprayerthankfulheart.blogspot.com/2009/09/first-day-of-senior-year-class-of-2010.html

I do enjoy visiting with you :)

  7. Greetings from Australia.
I just love your header - it's almost space for space like my lounge room, except I don't have a fire place.
I like the pictures down the side too - so very classy and old fashioned.
    Cheers.

  8. Love that tile! I'm all for redoing kitchens on the cheap. Or at least not the all expensive! Still not sure what I'm going to use for a back splash in our re-do.

  11. I love your tile, I would like to see the rest of the kitchen, maybe you have posted it and I missed seeing it! My granddaughter was nicknamed 'pookie' also by her dad. . .Happy birthday to your 18 yr. old daughter!

  12. Like my earlier post I love this back splash! While you say it was on your "cheap" budget... it certainly is a beautiful touch and one that reflects high end choices.

I 100% agree with your statement that inspiration is important and you cant PLAN for it. So many times i sit at my desk "thinking" I will do this or that...and then my photo takes me down a totally different path.

    Thanks for continually inspiring me.

Blessed Sunday -- seems like Sundays put me always on a line with you as i mentally THink about the shots I will Mosaic for Monday.

    :)

  13. Happy Birthday to your daughter! I enjoyed catching up on your kitchen posts this morning. I couldn't agree more about 'inspiration' ;-)

I do plan to participate in Mosaic Monday as usual (probably on all 3 blogs), and I dropped by to let you know I've left you a little something at Sacred Ruminations today … just because.
    Hugs and blessings,

  14. Funny how time flies by isn't it Mary? Well, maybe not so funny for us moms. Happy belated 18th Birthday to your daughter who I'm sure is a lovely girl.

My own daughter is only 16 and can't wait to get a tattoo. If only they would get it through their heads that one day they will probably be a mom and grandmother. It won't look so attractive then. What can you do though.

Wonderful classic tile for the wall. I hear you on the cheap part. LOL!
