Mary it's gotta be our "old age"! LOL! I don't feel Christmasy either, but every year I go thru the motions, putting up the tree, buying the presents, decorating the house. This years Amelia will be 18 months old at Christmas and will put some life back into our holiday celebrating. Yes, your paperwhites are lovely, I have never grown these, but one day I will try it! xo
This is beautiful Mary, and such a reminder that "simple" and "beautiful" should be the words we are using at this time, not "crazy, busy, hectic, rushing, etc."
PS Your title brought a smile to my face because it reminded me of a concert that we took my parents to. It was a big band type concert and when the song, "In the Mood" started playing you should have seen their faces light up and their toes begin tapping!
How beautiful Mary! You are inspiring me to buy some paperwhites of my own. I love the container too. Wonder if I could find something like that at TJ Maxx???
Christmas ... I feel your pain. But we'll trudge on through. It will all be over before you know it.
I think this syndrome has taken over.... I for one am too worn out. It's been a long year, but I have a feeling things are looking up. The spirit will find us--I believe it will;)
I am certain that the "fragrance" of your paperwhites is probably a hindrance, though they are lovely. How about some cinnamon in a pot of boiling water?
Hang in there, Mary, if all goes well, the mood will descend before the New Year arrives.
Your house looks lovely as it is so as Christmas is just one day enjoy your beautiful home. Feel free to pop over to England and decorate my house, you would be free to do as you wish as you have wonderful taste and style.
Hi Mary....I was thinking what it could be that everyone is having trouble getting kicked started this year....I know it was the same time between Thanksgiving and Christmas but somehow it felt shorter...Who wants to gussy up your whole house and drag out all the ornaments and crap when it's only for really 3 weeks....I'm going back to bed just thinking about it gets me tired!
Your paperwhites look beautiful. Yes, it is a lot of work, but we trudge along and do it anyway. Keep it simple, and enjoy the little things that make you happy. A cup of tea in your favorite room, a good book, a favorite Christmas movie. Visiting sweet blogging friends such as yourself. Hang in there. Baking always gets me in the mood.
Mary, it may or may not be that at certain age it gets more difficult to get the "Christmasy" feeling. Not sure. However I do know that at 72, my tree is up, my garlands are hung and those (ahem) bows are made and I am VERY aware that time is flying by. I don't have all that many Christmas' left and each day and each holiday with my family is a blessing. I have lost my precious highschool sweetheart and soul mate and then lost my miracle second love also. This year I have another chance, and the ticking clock reminds me to enjoy every precious Christmas moment. Your paper whites and beautiful china decorated tree are..exquisite. Enjoy every minute, Mary. It goes so quickly. :) Mona
Your dining room really looks lovely; I love the simplicity of it. Simplicity is my byword, or excuse this year, which ever way you want to look at it!.
Mary, I forced paper whites this year for the first time evah...since I'm the queen of silks. It truly has been fun to watch how quickly they grew into beautiful flowers. I'm looking foward to the week after Christmas, personally.
When I came home from work tonight and walked in my apartment I said "What stinks?" I realized it was paperwhites...it's just a tad bit overpowering in this small space! LOL

I am a 50-something reluctant housewife (I'd rather be an international supermodel or a forest ranger or a jockey), mother of two great but sometimes annoying kids ages 25 and 21, and wife to a funny, hard-working attorney.
While I appreciate each and every one of the awards that you have given me since 2007, I have decided that Little Red House will no longer be accepting awards and tags. Thank you for your understanding. :)
Christmas is alot of work and I agree that it's difficult to get "in the mood". The paperwhites are lovely.

Have a great Wednesday!
Hey Mary, Come by for a quick contest to help that Christmas Spirit and give you a smile.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time getting excited as well. Perhaps it is all the "good news" we keep getting in the newspaper and on TV.
Come over and visit with me. I am so in the mood this year, and I'll happily share my spirit.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks gorgeous, Mary. Come on now - get in the mood.

Not a single Xmas item in my house. Haven't even gotten out the Xmas dishes we usually eat on between Thanksgiving and New Years.
ReplyDeleteYour photos always warm my soul. Thanks for that!

Hi Mary, I feel the same, and last year was longer in between Thanksgiving & XMaa 32 days instead of 27.
ReplyDeleteIs it getting older, is it because my kids don't believe in Santa anymore ? I don't know.
Great post,
Kathy :)
Your paperwhites are lovely, Mary! I love their scent. Hope you find something to spark your Christmas spirit.
