What's Hanging?

I'm always interested in what people hang on their walls... in fact, you might call me a bloggy voyeur. :) I love to browse the decorating blogs, checking out all the great art. Not great, as in Matisse or Dutch Masters. But great as in "wow, I really like that!"

Over the years, I have found that vintage or antique prints seems to work best for me. This is an old house -- a little scruffy -- and anything too precious or polished would look like, well... a sow in a silk dress. So I tend to collect old prints, mainly with a flower theme. Because I love flowers. :)

The prints you see here hang in our master bedroom. The large one was found at a rummage sale for $6. The others came from my favorite thrift store. I think they were $2.50 each. It's driving me nuts that they are hanging crooked in these photos, but I just wanted to give you an idea of the "art" here at Little Red House.

So tell me, what's hanging on your walls? ;)

  1. Lovely things on your wall! I love your particular taste, not only in wall art, I think the whole house is lovely.
On the walls throughout my home, I have-some vintage botanical prints, some counted thread cross stitch, some new and old folk art things, a grouping of old black and white photos of family in gold frames, a gouping of white platters, a grouping of straw hats, some prints by local artists, and some therom paintings by my late Aunt Betty. It sounds like a lot, but it's all through the house :)

  2. Ah! Pictures are often crooked here -- I think it's because the walls are crooked, or because my mother's pictures were always crooked, too. Like, big time. Like, drunken pictures. It didn't help that her kids would sometimes hang them upside down and see how long it took her to notice.
LOVE the flower prints. I've been prowling for those, too, lately. In fact where do you live, and where are my burglar's tools?

Meanwhile, to answer your questions, I do not have enough on our walls, and am not that happy with what I do have. Oh well. it gives me a reason to keep looking.
    Have a lovely day!
We are toddling off to Basking Ridge for a meeting -- any recommendations for a lunch spot?

  3. ...do you know why there should always be something a little bit crooked or flawed in our homes?... because it represents us...grand and beautiful creations...but with a tiny flaw somewhere to make us accessible to others...remmeber christmas trees must always have a gap...for that is where God's creatures lived in the safety of its branches...homes sould be like that...and your home always relflects that perfectly...

  5. Wow! My yard saling skills are so poor - these are a wonderful marvel to me!!! I especially love the ovals! If it was my photo, the crookedness would be driving me nuts, too - absolutely. However, looking at yours, it's endearing. Hmmmm, a lesson learned.

    Love, Katy

  6. I love florals, too, but over the last few years I have added tropical waterscapes to my floral mix. I just found a new one for my bedroom for $5 at a huge church-sponsored garage sale last week. I was very excited about that!

  9. My walls have mostly old pictures picked up at antique stores or purchased for a song on ebay. I love old things. I can just imagine the history of the print, where it has hung in years past. Carla

  10. I have a very tiny house with limited wall space, but lots of stuff hanging on every wall. Looking around, I just realised that very little of what's hanging is framed art. I love cubby type display boxes and have lots of those, but I just bought a set of old framed flower prints at our town wide garage sale and can't wait to hang them. Love your picture wall (and the rest of your house).

I am always so indecisive that it is difficult for me to decide just what to hang on my walls:) I have a collection of crossstich and embroidery in my hallway (Not the expensive kind)...lots of artwork by my brother in law and husband...inexpensive artwork from vacations...and of course photographs...

    Love your vintage prints...

  18. I love your flower pictures. I'd love to find one like that large one. Like you, I prefer old pictures.

On my walls I have a few botanical type prints, two large groupings of old family photos, old ship photos in the Library, two reproductions of paintings by a famous artist family member, several mirrors, a collection of prints and watercolors in the living room depicting places we've visited and English cottages, and food pictures in the kitchen. Hmmm, I should do a post on this. Thanks for sharing the idea.
