A Gentle Reminder



Just a gentle reminder to all gardeners who have spent the summer battling oppressive heat, and parched earth, followed by biblical deluge...




For all of us who have fought the good fight against rabbits and ground hogs and deer... Many, many deer...






For all of the gardeners who have been disappointed by seeds that didn't germinate, or colors that clashed, or plants that just plain disappeared...




Yup, gardening grows the spirit. And there is always next year. ;)

    I'm not ready to put the potager to sleep just yet, there are still some good things to eat growing out there.
    But I have to confess I'm already thinking about what worked, what didn't, and what to plant in the future.
    Thanks for the gentle reminder, that God willing, I'll get another chance next year.

    Thank you for that. I was up at seven to water the flowers, pinch back the petunias, and try to make today look better than yesterday. I fear it is hopeless and so I look forward to next spring and summer, but not before I enjoy a mostly flower free fall and winter.

    I keep a notebook each year and make notes of what worked out well and what I want to try next year. That way I don't waste my time on the flowers that look great in the store, but can't handle real life in the garden. There's always fall mums to look forward to - unless I forget to water them!

    That was so good Mary..I have faced the same conclusion myself for this year, but I stilll have a small spark of hope so I am going to purchase a "couple of mums" yep I am going to chance it and maybe the fall flowers will be this year's big success! Don't drop that hoe just yet!

    After a great gardening year last year, this summer has been a bit of a disappointment, that is for sure! I think farmers and gardeners are the ultimate optimists. "Hope springs eternal" - even if the garden fizzles out!

    I think this post was written for me! I am ashamed at how weedy, dry, and straggly my "garden" has become this summer...I just couldn't get into it this year it seems...there is always next year as you say:)

    Great post and oh so true.....record heat here and I just saw a plant that got scorched today while I was at work, I have watered, watered, watered this year. I would love some nice 70 degree days with 50 degree nights. Beautiful photos as usual.

    I have to tell you, you are an amazing photographer and I always try to figure out how to take pictures as good as you. Now I have a question, the purple flower, do you know the name of it? I think I have hundreds of the plant in my yard, it is a see of purple in the fall. It spreads like wildfire and whenever I give some to friends I tell them one plant will give you twenty. If you do know could you let me know? Thank you, I can not seem to find the plant in the nurseries around her.
