Little Things

Sometimes, the stupidest little things make me happy. Like these two tiny birds I got at Michael's last week. The yellow one came with some greenery and a pinecone -- I placed him on the shelf, above. The red one nestled into our little kitchen tree, pictured below. They join the decorations on my bird wall in the kitchen, and they make me smile everytime I walk past. :O)

I'm also cheered by some red transferware in this plate rack, also in the kitchen, and the swag of red berries on top. Don't red berries just make you smile?

Or do I need to tweak my meds?

Happy decorating, dear bloggers!

  1. No need to tweak your meds Mary:>) Being happy about the little things is most likely the best sign of a healthy attitude! I love birds and the little things around my home tend to make me smile too! You know I love those dishes! and the bird prints and figurines would be right at home in my own little cottage:>)

  2. Mary,
Love the goldfinch perched next to his brother in the print. I dought clip -on Cardinals at Target and found some larger April Cornell(don't you just love April?) at Homegoods. Must be the year for the birdies. That reminds me I need birdseed. See how an ADD mind works? I will go out and forget the bird seed, even if I write it down.

  3. Nope, Mary...I would say if the small things DIDN'T make you smile, you may need to change your meds. It's the small things that add up to a hugh thing, I think!
I love your birds and, as always, great photos!

  4. No tweaking necessary. I have red berries everywhere in my home. They do indeed make me smile.

Your birds are so beautiful. I saw a red cardinal last Friday when I was at my aunt's. How pretty he looked tiptoeing around the garden area. No doubt in heaven when he found the copious amount of seed she left out for him and his friends.

    Love,

  5. I think it's the small things in your home that really make you enjoy it, and maybe it's someting so miniscule visitors wouldn't notice. But you do everytime you walk by and it makes your heart smile. Seems like you've done a nice job of that for yourself and family!

  9. What beautiful birds ! My favorite I think would be the yellow one. You can almost hear hime chirp. I think we should take pleasure in small things. That's pretty good medicine to feel better with small things.

  10. I love your little birds and berries, Mary. But what really makes me smile is visiting sweet friends who can find joy in the simplest of things....I know, I'm being sappy! I'm in one of those kinds of moods today....maybe I should tweak my meds...LOL!

  12. Hi Mary, I almost bought the same yellow canary with the greenery and the pinecone the other day, it was 50% off, and it was so darling… but you know how it is; Michael’s is always beaming with wonderful and beautiful stuff, and by the time I went to pay I had more things than needed, so the little bird had to stay.

    Enjoy your birdie

  13. Don't you just love a store like Michaels that is totally mainstream-with-coupons and yet you can come away with little treasures that look like a forage through some grandma's attic?

    Everything looks absolutely lovely.

  33. I get all silly and happy when I see such things. Now, *I* might need more meds but not you sweet Mary!
I so love all your little touches. They make me so happy just to see them.
I have many things that are a tiny but tattered but oh so well loved. Dan's ornaments and now, Grace's. I have some that we picked up before we married and some we made together years ago. They are special, no matter the tiny imperfections! In fact, that makes them even more special!

    Just like yours.
