While on vacation in southern New Jersey, we visited a garden named Leaming's Run. It was filled with mostly annual flowers, and followed a meandering path through a wooded area.
Some beautiful daylilies here, backed by some cleome. Don't you love the huge elephant's ear?
Some beautiful annuals, including a red canna. Oh how I wish my garden was half so lovely!
A gazebo overlooking the water. This was a terrific place to rest, and escape the hot sun for a few minutes.
The garden is cultivated on the sight of the last remaining whaler's house in New Jersey. In addition to the gardens, there are several log buildings, a small colonial garden and livestock, which "bring to life the challenges faced by the whalers who first settled in Cape May County." Good morning, Mary. It is so nice to have you back. I can start my morning with beautiful contemplation.

ReplyDeleteWhat a charming place to visit! I would love going there! The history alone would be enjoyable to me, and the gardens and scenery a big plus!

What a beautiful place to visit. The Coast Guard has their training centers in Cape May, so my husband has spent a lot of time there and he keeps telling me that he wants to take me back because I will LOVE it. I can't wait to see lovely places like this.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your trip, but on the selfish side, I'm glad your back.
*hugs*

Very nice! Looks very peaceful there. We have elephant ears too but they are kind of a pain to bring in each year.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful and project serenity. You are very talented. We enjoyed a vacation at Cape May and Wildwood a few years ago. I would love to go back.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty pictures of the park. And the whalers house being the last house now that is so interesting. It is such a charming place thank you for sharing.

What a beautiful place, Mary. The house and gardens are lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe used to live in Cape May (years ago). My hubby was stationed at the Coast Guard base.
This is a lovely cottage garden. very cheerful in its colourful way.
ReplyDeleteYes, and I can relate to your last post, I get garden weary for a while and then this rush of planting and pruning and....and...comes back!
Thank you for your comment on my SWF.
I love Cape May, I used to go there when I lived in Princeton, N.J. all the time. I also love the Jersey Shore and in particular Spring Lake. So much charm. These photographs make me feel as if I were there. So glad that you enjoyed your trip. Karen
