When it's only you for dinner, do you eat off a paper plate, or from plastic containers? Why not pamper yourself a little, and set a pretty tray?
What could be more luxurious than a little bowl of roses?
How about a cranberry glass goblet? I found this one in a thrift store. Now I just have to keep looking for seven more! :)
I lined the tray with a sumptuous piece of embroidered damask that my mother had put away in her linen closet. The damask napkin is held by a mother-of-pearl napkin ring from Target, of all places.
I found three of these lovely plates in the thrift store for $5. each. The mark on the back says: "Taylor Smith Taylor, USA 4372." Also, "Guaranteed 22K Gold, E.C. Co."
Bone-handled knife, monogrammed fork and coin silver spoon are from my rag-tag collection of flatware.
The rose bowl is also a thrift store find, $3. Believe it or not, when I first saw this, I immediately thought of filling it with roses.
As you can see, there are a few carnations in among the roses. I really love these soft colors so much more than the blood red roses you so often see in florist's shops.
Well, that's it -- all set for that microwave Lean Cuisine dinner. ;)
As always, many thanks to our lovely Tablescape Thursday hostess, Susan. To see lots of wonderful tablescapes, visit Susan's blog, Between Naps on the Porch.

ReplyDeleteWhat you have done is lovely as always. It is such a treat for me to come here and see your dishes, silver and flowers.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Beautiful...what a wondeful tablescape for one...I love it! You made me smile talking about only needing 7 more of the stemware. I used to pass over something if there was only one or two...not anymore. I've come to appreciate the mixing and the matching...you always do such a brilliant job at putting together the perfect pieces. I love the rose and carnations...gorgeous colors...I'm so with you on the red. Thanks for another great TT! Susan
ReplyDeleteMary, beautiful as always! I love that rose bowl!
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning! I would love to eat on that place.
ReplyDeleteWow! You do lean cuisine in style! Good for you to enjoy all this. Beautiful tablescape.
ReplyDeletejust reading your post made me think of Alexandria Stoddard. You should read some of her books...especially the older ones that are harder to find.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to post on a table for one. My aunt is a widow and I need to show her this!
I love your cranberry goblet, what a shame you just have the one....but perfect for your tray for one, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI have the exact same napkin rings from Target, I love them!

ReplyDeleteA lovely tray! I think Lean Cuisine would taste like fine cuisine in that setting(:
ReplyDeleteWhat? You mean you are not supposed to eat dinner standing at the kitchen sink when you are alone? Clearly I need to re-think things . . .
ReplyDeleteLovely tray -- those plates are amazing!
All the best... (and wasn't Wednesday gorgeous?)
Cass

ReplyDeletethis is gorgeous...love the fact you are mixing so many different things...sentimental damask from your mother, a napkin ring from target(gotta love that place), with bargins from the antique store. it turned out beautifully and what a treasure all for just you. bravo!
ReplyDeleteVery romantic... looks like magazine photos!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI can't believe those plates! When I first saw them I thought you had gold chargers underneath,as the rim is so thick...wow ! I love
the glass and what a great idea to buy one if you love it. Love the target find and the rose bowl is to die for......
Hugs ~ Kammy
Just perfect, Mary. I love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I would love my Lean Cuisine's served like this!
ReplyDeleteI pamper myself when I do dinner for one -- table, cloth, real napkin -- instead of a tray, I'll do dinner in the breakfast room overlooking the garden.
ReplyDeleteYou do set a beautiful tray.
That is so beautiful. I love the ruby glass. The whole tray makes me want to go home and sit down with a good glass of wine (and it is only 7:30 a.m.)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Mary! I love the cranberry glass goblet. I collect the ruby flash and have bought several matching (I now have 10) on ebay.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice table for one.....that and a good book w/ a glass of wine....perfect!
I love that...how pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteOh how fabulously charming....
ReplyDeleteIt is so very nice to pamper one's own self. :-)
Have a beautiful day.
Oh, Mary! You've set such a special place for yourself...I LOVE it! I do this, too! It does make everything taste better and you don't feel so "alone"! It's beautiful! I love all the pieces and how you pulled them together! Great job!
ReplyDeleteNow...to find that glass tabletop...Micheal's. AC Moore, Lowe's, Home Depot...different sizes and not badly priced. Please do one and send me pics for the contest! I'd love to see what beauty you create!
Happy Thursday!
;-D
Mary, it's always a treat to come by & see your beautiful photos. As usual, I was not disappointed. You found some great pieces at the rummage sale too, my fellow bargain hunter!
ReplyDeleteI too always enjoy your photos. This is an exceptional tray set for one. I have seen those cranberry glasses before. Most likely in an antique shop. I have never been one to buy just one of something that speaks to me either but I surely will think long and hard about it now from here on out. You have taught me somehting. Thank you. Your lovely tray is gorgeous.

Simply beautiful! I love the idea of setting a tray for one on those occasions when you dine alone. I like the idea that some of this was purchased at a thrift store for so cheaply! That makes it all the more attractive to me, but these are beautiful all on their own too. The addition of fresh flowers makes this perfect!
ReplyDeleteKady
Hi Mary! This is wonderful. I loved seeing what you were going to do! Just wonderful. Next time I am alone I will just have to try this!

ReplyDeleteWow! I had to pick myself up off the floor when I saw the deal you got on those plates! I love that you are pampering yourself. Looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteSo simple and so sweet. I love it. I was wondering..what do you really think of glasses that don't match but are..say...similar. Like the ruby Flash by Westmoreland. I have been looking for those.. Could you mix and match the same as with plates? All with the clear and the ruby trim? Maybe not..just wondering.. :)
ReplyDeleteTable for one is nice sometimes.. you bet!
A simply gorgeous romantic table for one.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are just so beautiful...you bring such joy with each post!
