I'll be the first one to admit that no one really needs more than one silver-plated gravy boat. But somehow, whenever I see one of these little babies, they just call my name.
I love the shape of the bowls, and the gently curving handles. And sometimes they have monograms, which are like icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
I tend to let them go unpolished. Patina is good, right? That's what I'm telling myself at the moment anyway. lol
I've gathered them together here on this painted tole tray, but I'm trying to find a permanent place to display them. Maybe in the kitchen?
So tell me, is there some object that calls your name? That you have too many of, but can't seem to stop collecting? Tell me all about that one special object, that you just can't resist.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who needs to tweak her meds. ;)
It's nice to see someone else with an irrational collecting habit. For me, it's antique trunks (and roses, but that's a subject for another time). There's just something about a trunk that gets my heart fluttering ... I had a friend tell me that it must be the personal nature of someone long ago storing their belongings in a trunk. I tell myself that all these trunks are useful ... you know, extra storage. Well . . . maybe.

Ohhhhhh, I know precicely what you meen with "these babies are calling me"....
ReplyDeleteOne day I would love to show you "mines"..!
Beautiful and very elegant; PERFETTO the Styling!
Have a wonderful day!

I have the same condition! I really think we are fine. I will have to look for gravy boats now....

You are not alone. I have "thing" for Polish Pottery. I can't stop collecting it.

Ah, mine is McCoy Pottery. I love it and can't resist it!
ReplyDeleteI love your gravy boat! It's so pretty, all of them are. Yes, I do the same thing, but with soooo many things! come over to my blog and you can see my cookbook collection. If I see an old cookbook I cannot resist. The same for old children's books. But really for me, if it is a vintage thing that I love and it has the right price, it usually ends up coming home with me!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sharon
They look so beautiful all together. Isn't it interesting that collections look so nice when grouped together.
ReplyDeleteOh I love all the wonderful shapes and sizes of silver gravy boats. I have one that I especially love with it's own saucer attached. I think anything silver is gorgeous. Yours are just lovely. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI am drawn to anything with fluted edges, especially plates and bowls...isn't it funny what items make us feel good?
ReplyDeleteLove your gravy boats...I own only one gravy boat and if you tasted my gravy you would understand why!!
I'm laughing at what Patti just said above! LOL
ReplyDeleteI think you're perfectly normal in your obsession with gravy boats and each one is lovely in its own special way.
My love WAS teapots until I collected so many, I didn't have room to display them. I had to tell friends & relatives "no more, please!" because everyone knew about my idiosyncrasies.
Keep it up...its FUN!
fondly,
Rettabug
Right now I am chasing after solid color teapots for the top of the cupboards in the kitchen, and white chickens with nests under them (solid white)and santa faces for making santa dolls. Your little gravy boats are darling.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly see why you love gravy boats. I'm attracted to silver hollowware myself. I vote for the tarnish look because it blends silver and "gold" beautifully. Let's see. . . I have a lot of obsessions, but at the moment I'm looking at flower frogs and white ironstone pitchers, little creamers all the way to big water pitchers. Yes indeed. I'm headed to the Rose Bowl Flea Market Sunday, we'll have to see what calls to me there! Yippee!
ReplyDeleteI have a recent dish set fetish. Yikes. I seriously need help ... or maybe not. They bring me joy, and there is nothing wrong with that :o) You go Gravy Boat Girl!
ReplyDeleteI love dishes. And I have closets and cupboards full to prove it! Although, lamps and chairs run a close second!!
ReplyDeleteI inherited a whack of silver serving dishes and trays but I don't recall a gravy boat or I'd be mailing it to you. I just cleaned two of the trays this morning that I keep on my tea cart.
ReplyDeleteMy collections are not obsessive but I do have fairies, scotty dogs and birds.
The one to fess up to here is cream and sugar sets or separates. I've picked up some cute crystal ones at garage sales and they don't match anything else I have. Just can't seem to help myself when I see another set someone else doesn't want any more. Come to Momma! :-)
Sheesh! I wish it was just one object calling my name :0)
ReplyDeleteDeviled egg trays call my name. I just love them. I of course have absolutely no room for them but I just store them and use a couple. I will have to dig them out sometime and do a photo shoot. I bought one of them on ebay from a person in Australia.
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly! My name is Laura and I'm a collector! Your gravy boats are fabulous....I love old silver and too many other things to list!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun!
My weakness is milk glass, of course!
ReplyDeleteHello Mary;;; I so can relate;;; I am a nut on collecting Tea cups and saucers, oh and tea pots.. Love your silver gravy boats, they are so pretty... have a great weekend..
ReplyDeleteHugs;
Alaura
I am obsessed with teacups. I could probably host the entire City of Boston for tea. That would actually be fitting since we had our famous tea party in Boston.
ReplyDeleteI don't seek them out but whenever I see a pretty one I just have to take it home.
I love silver's soft reflection of the tray...can feel the years of sweet love those darling vessels served up!
ReplyDeleteOh...and the obsessive collection - my husband's guitars. But he would not be pleased with me if I posted them... precious babies, ya know. (hmmm...maybe I'll sneak in some curvy closeups)... ;)
ReplyDeleteMary, if there is a med for this disease, please post about it, because I KNOW I need to be on it! There are way too many treasures that call my name (and I don't NEED any of them). What a beautiful collection of gravy boats. I sometimes use gravy boats for salad dressing. If I'm offering a selection of dressings, I really might NEED several gravy boats! laurie
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! I am called the insatiable collector, or the obsessive collector, and sometimes some other things! (like pack rat) My addiction is mostly to Quimper faïence, with lot of other French faïences thrown in too. See our page for the Quimper Club if you wish to see what this is.
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful photos..and this collecting seems to be addictive!
Those are precious!!! There are no meds strong enough to help me resist or recover from Collector's Fever!
ReplyDeletem ^..^
My weakness is antique picture frames! And...anything pretty : + Just found your blog - love your pictures, wow, just beautiful. Trina
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely...actually silver is lovely and I have collected way too much of it! (just added a garage sale square tray last week...it is big, HEAVY, and has a pierced rim...ahhhh)
ReplyDeleteMy worst, most useless addiction are small, single, hand painted salt/pepper shakers. They are just so dainty and beautiful. They always look so sad sitting there all alone and unwanted in garage sales or thrift stores. I just can't leave them like that...they have to come home with me and have a warm, sheltered place to live. I probably have 20 of them...what in the world will happen to them when I am gone :^( Oh well, they are happy now :^)
