Going to the Birds

Do you ever feel like you live the most boring life imaginable, and no one would be interested in anything you could possibly write about?

No, of course not. Because all of you lead wonderfully full and interesting lives. You paint furniture. You create fabulous scrapbooks. You visit exotic places.

All I do is spend way too much time taking pictures. lol

I went to a nearby park on Monday to get some pictures of reflections in the water for my 365 blog, Beauty Unspoken. I came away with a photo of a Canada goose taking an afternoon snooze. :)

And also a pair of mallards preening in the sun.

There was a big sign, in Spanish and English, warning that it was against the law to feed the waterfowl. But as I walked around the perimeter path, a car pulled up and an old woman got out. She went to the water's edge, right under the "Do Not Feed the Waterfowl" sign, and tossed some bread into the water. Then she got back into the car and drove away.

Instantly, some Canada geese, the mallards and a pair of swans appeared. And I got my reflections shot.

Sometimes the planets just align, you know? And I feel as though my life is not going to the birds after all. ;)

  1. I for one am glad you "go to the birds"
I love your photographs. You have a great eye behind the camera that encourages the rest of us who ... do the same thing!!

I love water reflection shots too - I recently had a couple of good ones:

Have a great day! (and keep going to the birds!)

  4. Hi Mary, the photographs are lovely especially the reflection of the swans, the water is so blue. I hope you felt better for the walk and seeing the wonders of nature. It is a bit dull here but I think I will go out later along the canal and get some fresh air and exercise instead of sitting on the PC!! Have a great day and thank you for sharing the photographs, Jackie in UK.

  5. I'd say 758 people are interested in what you say. And photograph. Your photos have an elegance to them that is refreshing and peaceful.

  7. Your life can't be much more boring than mine, Mary! It seems friends are always taking vacations, or doing something exciting, while I stay home. Maybe it's the life we prefer and don't even know it. I have to admit, I do like calmness. Every time we go somewhere or do something exciting I end up not feeling well. LOL!

People shouldn't give the birds bread. They say it causes bacteria in the water. But you got your shots so that's what matters at that point! I'd say that Goose is giving you the eyeball ; )

  8. My Grand daughters are so quick to say they are bored and I look at them sideways and wonder just how busy and active do they need to be to consider their lives as not being boring. I think we get so used to our live styles that we tend to over look the daily little bits of excitement in our lives. For instance I let Paddy Girl out this morning to do her business. When I let her back in I noticed that our Red Bud tree that the county workers pretty much destroyed last fall has blooms on it this morning. Have a great day Mary and keep sharing those wonderful visions that you see through your camera lens. That may be the difference in someone's life being fulfilled or not. :o)

  11. Think my life is boring? All the time! But then I remember that while I don't have cows running through my backyard, I also don't have snow much of the year (except this year!) and that I really do like my life, mundane as it may be:)

  12. Good Morning Mary,
What a sweet post and as usual your photo's are gorgeous. Isn't that funny how that little old lady ignored the sign to feed the birds LOL! She was probably doing that way before the sign was put up.

Hmm do I feel my life is boring sometimes...seems I've got way too much to do fixing up this little old farm to be bored! I do hope people find at least some of the things we're up to on this adventure interesting..it's certainly been a fun journey for us. I hope you have a wonderful day! Best Wishes Maura

  15. Your pictures are great. I'm sure we all feel like we live a boring life at one time or another. I know I do. But we should be so thankful for a peaceful life - many people don't know what "peaceful" means. Take care.

  18. I do believe beauty is in the most mundane of things. Nature is too incredible and ever-changing to be boring. Your photos are wonderful. Here's to more "boring" days :)

  19. I love old women (and men) who thumb their noses at the rules sometimes. Off to look at Beauty unspoken.
    Hugs to you, Mary!

  21. Oh, Mary, your life is anything but boring! Yours was one of the first blogs I discovered and I keep coming back for the beautiful photos as well as your words. I admire you because you continue to develop your photography skills. I know how you feel about being boring however. When I see all that clever, creative women are doing around their house it can be intimidating. My blog is only read by a few and I do it mostly for myself. It's a chronicle of my everyday life...maybe quiet, but never boring! Peggy from Pa season-to-season.blogspot.com

  22. I'm right there with you on the taking pictures thing. The only problem is that I'm not nearly as good at it as you are!!! I love the pictures of the waterfoul. I occasionally have some on my pond, but they won't let me get close enough for pictures. Carla

  23. Your colors are so beautiful and sharp! I am sure your life if full of "to dos"! You probably NEVER sit still long enough to watch tv like I do! LOL I love my night time shows! silly, but I do...but when summer comes and all the shows are re-runs...I won't have any excuses, I will have to get up and out and do those "to dos"! lots of smiles....thanks!

  25. I would love some of the birds to look like that for me. Great photos. I see folks feed the geese and ducks all the time down at Bernheim. I don.t know why. We had a woman jailed because she protested that Bernheim Forest was starving the deer they are protecting there. She said they were not getting enough to eat. Can you believe that.

  29. All I can say is, I am very thankful that "all" you can do is take pictures! I enjoy the time I spend visiting your blogs and being blessed with the beauty you share with all of us. I want you to know that it is through your eyes that many of us see such beauty, and are trying our best to capture what is around us with our little point and shoot cameras! I have a hard enough time coming up with photos for Mosaic Monday, but because you give us this opportunity to share, I now look around me with different eyes to see beauty in the common, everyday things and moments!
    Thnk you, Mary!

  32. Hi Mary
