When my friend Toni and I went to see the Monet exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden last month, we were thrilled to discover that the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden was in full bloom. Here are just a few of the many, many photos I took that afternoon. Click on the link to see a photo of the entire garden from above. It is an amazing place to visit on a sunny afternoon -- the air is filled with perfume and the drone of happy insects. :)

ReplyDeleteIt must have been so glorious, Mary! Sometimes I think it's sad that I didn't really appreciate the beauty of a rose until I was older. Now I cannot get enough of them! Glad it was a wonderful trip with a friend : )

Hi Brenda, Thanks so much for your kind comment! I do use Photoshop, mainly to add a texture to my images. The textures I've been using lately are from Jessica Drossin. If you google her, you will find her textures for sale. I also shoot wide open, with my 50mm lens set at an aperture of 1.4. This allows me to place the focus narrowly on the subject. Lastly, I have my in-camera picture control set to "Vivid." This helps to give me colors that pop.
DeleteHope this helps. Maybe I will do a post about editing with before and after pictures. I'm not sure how many people would want to see that, though, if they are not using Photoshop... Anyway, thanks again! xoxo

Oh, my goodness!!! But, Of course you went to the Monet exhibit.... I heard about it through an email from the Met museum and I've been aching to go! Just last night my mom said....what's a four hour there and four hour back commute - it's doable????!!!!! =/

ReplyDeleteHi Mary -- I am trying to wrap up a few garden chores today, before that killer heat kicks in. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteHowever -- I do bless the decision we made when we bought this house to install central air. Never had it before -- that old Puritan ethic kept me from indulging in such a luxury! that, and not being able to afford it. :-P
But now that we have it .. oh my. I am a fan.
Yes, it does mean I go outside less often on really HOT HOT days, but I realized I stayed inside with fans anyway on really HOT HOT days.
We have been having a gorgeous late spring, though .. except for a bit too many clouds.
Like today.
LOVE the rose pictures. Roses are so amazingly varied and beautiful. I wish I were better at growing them, but I have resorted this year to putting in some Knockout Roses as I understand they are fool proof. So we'll see if they survive THIS fool.
Also -- I've been meaning to say that yours is one of the few blogs I visit for the pictures as they are always so beautiful and, well -- dreamy. I am awed at how much you have learned and how sophisticated your photography is -- it was always good, now it is great.
Alida and Josh are coming for a visit beginning Friday night. Not a long one -- back to Los Angeles on July 3 -- and during this visit "home" Alida will buzz everywhere visiting friends, and also fill the house with people, as that's what she does, so it will be a busy time. I don't think I'll actually see too much of them, but it will be nice to have them under our roof -- at least for a few of those days!

Beautiful photographs! These flowers look really lovely in print, I wonder how lovelier they’ll look like in real life. It’s impressive how people managed to grow splendid plants like that. Passion and love for the environment must be one factor that makes them really skilled and proficient in gardening.
