I've got a monkey on my back. I don't really know what to say about this except that I just cannot pass by a pretty piece of china in the thrift store. Do I need it? No. Do I have space to store it? No. But in my defense, it's Minton. Minton! For $2. Isn't it pretty?
And while this plate is not the same manufacturer or pattern, it does match nicely, doesn't it? So that had to come home with me, too. Right?
Lastly, here is a small soup tureen -- maybe for an individual serving? You know I love dishes with lids on them... Besides, it's creamware, and I'm sort of collecting that for my kitchen.
OK, so I may have a slight problem. But you love reading about it. You know you do.
I would have bought all of those myself!
ReplyDeleteI love love the small soup tureen ....
and jugs and teapots and ummmm ......
I DO love reading about your addiction Mary! In fact, you have inspired me to go antiquing. You really have! I picked up a lovely white container the other day that you would just love. Wait until you see it!
ReplyDeleteNow your husband on the other hand must be saying, 'More dishes?' ha ha!
Oh, Mary...they are beautiful. I suffer from the same"disease" that you do so if you find a cure let me know. On second thought, don't tell me! I enjoy my china addiction too much to ever give it up. I keep telling my husband that he should be happy that I spend an average of $4 every time I visit Good Will. I mean, really...at least it's not a $350.00 purse or something! And besides, I use my treasures on a daily basis. I never have to drink out of the same teacup twice! Once at a family dinner at our home, my sister-in-law said (while looking at my lovely table) "the meal may not always be the best, but no table could look more beautiful!" My brother looked at her and said something about that wasn't a very nice comment. He was referring to the meal part of it. I looked at him and said "oh no, she just gave me one of the best compliments"! Because truly I spend about 10 minutes thinking of what I will cook and about an hour planning what china, glasses and linen to use! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful purchases Mary! I have many dishes in my cupboard that I only use for special occasions. It's nice that you use yours all year long!
ReplyDeleteI think what saves me from being you is knowledge!! I don't know what Milton is. However, I love the soup tureen!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful addiction you have there.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you Mary with your addiction. Only I have more than one lol. Photography is one; collecting teacups and angels and depression glass is another. I love your photo's here and your sentiments.
ReplyDeleteSee you later and keep up the great work!!
Jody
No justification necessary. And, I love that mini-tureen.
ReplyDeleteOh, Mary -- for Minton I might even have gone to $3.
ReplyDeleteAnd it just started hailing here. Good grief.
Cass

ReplyDeleteI passed up a piece from Germany the other day and I am seriously considering going back to get it tomorrow. After all, it's only an hours drive! I can do that! LOL. It Seems sad to leave those little treasures sit on the shelf when they can come home with me and feel appreciated!
mary

I do love seeing all your bargains...and they are fabulous. I love the plate and I love anything with a lid on also....
ReplyDeleteoh, now i'm going to have to go to the thrift store here to look around. you always find the best stuff.
ReplyDeleteOh, one can never have enough china! I feel the same way...I especially love that plate! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. No way to resist :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh, so pretty! You do have the coolest thrift stores in your area!
ReplyDeleteMy friends have actually started to carter to my new-found fascination for dishes: one of them bought an old, pink Old Britain Castles tureen for me earlier this week. Of course I had to go and have a look at the Wedgwood website -- and have completely fallen in love with the current OBC tureen, too. It looks like a bigger version of the OBC sugar pot. With little feet! So cute!
mary, WHERE IS THIS SHOP? i mean REALLY! none of the little places around me have this kind of quality and/or quantity. GRANTED you have 'the eye' it takes to find a treasure, but REALLY! and in the meantime you are getting a wonderful collection!!! jkj
ReplyDeleteYes, you've got a point there!
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteYou are killing me ( not really) with your good finds .I loved the silver embossed (?) spoon that you posted awhile ago .
Janet @ Houspeepers is a good friend of mine and when I'm checking out her blog , I usally stop by your's also. Love you header photo.
I even said to Janet " the lady at Little Red House gets email about new stuff" with a gleam in my eye hoping that our stores would have some good goods but alas I went into a couple Sal. Army/Goodwill in the area and all they had was the vases(that come from the florist ) for 3/4 dollars ..no thanks .
Anyways , thanks for sharing your finds . I did find two really pretty blue and white plates for kitchen today and reasonable priced at second hand store ...Great blog.
Thanks, Martha
I...I...the prices...goodness!! I would have paid at least $15 for the cup and saucer..and at least the same for the tureen. Whaaaat the heck??
ReplyDeleteCalifornia..is NOT the bargain capital of the world. I have made a few finds...but VERY few and nothing like you find. My Goebel bunny was my best lately. :) GOOD for you, Mary!!
I share your sickness -- do you suppose there is a rehab place for people like us? I hope not!
ReplyDeleteScribbler
Hi! Have been reading your blog for some time but today I had to say hi! I love your house and reading about your thrift findings. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMary
ReplyDeleteNot a bad addiction at all! My Mom always makes a new dish when she buys a new pot or dish--you, too??
I am afraid that your "condition" is contagious. Since I have been reading your blog, I find that "stuff" with lids catch my eye! In fact, purchased a nice covered dish this week!
ReplyDeleteYou could have worse problems, really you could. And you know we love reading about this particular one of yours, dontcha?
ReplyDeleteGreat thrifty finds! I think it's a great addiction!
ReplyDeleteOH you know I do, I love looking and reading about them. I am the same way, teacups and tea pots are my weakness. Oh and beautiful little plates and bowls, and just about any thing. lol
ReplyDeleteWish I could go and shop with you.
Hugs;
Alaura
I am seriously coveting these newest treasures!
ReplyDeleteyou needed to buy them. no choice in the matter! enjoy!
ReplyDelete:)
Mary, the Minton cup and saucer set is too pretty! You did the right thing by bringing it home.
ReplyDeleteThose are really cute pieces indeed. And now that I think about it, maybe it's your fault that last week I bought something at the flea market, take a look http://mylittleplace.blog.com/4628594/
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pieces! You find the loveliest things.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are just gorgeous! I am curious tho - do you buy plates even if there are only a few? Or do you wait until you can get pretty much a whole set? Do you mix and match them then when you use them? Is that hard to do? Would love to know more!
