A Great Big Smile Just For You

A great big thank you to all who participated in Mosaic Monday. Although I could not leave comments for all of you, I really enjoyed seeing all your wonderful mosaics! What a pool of talented bloggers we have here -- you guys are the best. :)

These Black-Eyed Susans are in a pot on my deck. I never used to like yellow flowers. I was a very snobbish English country style gardener with all pastel blooms. But with years comes wisdom -- now I'm happy with whatever wants to grow for me. :)

Tell me, what are your favorite flowers, or colors in the garden? What grows well for you? What is your go-to garden flower?

  1. Funny, I used to feel the same way about yellow and orange flowers. As if they were too typical somehow. But now they make me as happy as the sunshine they reflect.

    Beautiful photo!

  2. My favorites are Hollyhocks, morning glories, I have a huge patch of black eyes susans in front of the house. I guess I love anything that blooms to tell the truth! I am even considering digging up the orange lilies that I threw out in the woods and planting them up closer to the house by the fence row:>)

  3. Ah, I do wish I could share with ou what grows in my "garden." But, alas, I have none!! ONly a yard full of weeds and too-long grass because of almost-constant rain. Maybe someday...C

  4. I wouldn't call myself a gardener per se, but I've always had flowers although most of them aren't in the ground. I'd say that the container plants are my go-to flowers. Petunias, impatiens . . . I do love morning glories too. I can't wait til ours bloom. They make the most interesting pictures.

  5. Beautiful picture! My go-to flower is verbena, it grows fast, with showy purple flowers (I've seen it in pink too)and butterflies love it too!

  7. Altho I am NOT a gardener, I do love all flowers. I love rose bushes and pretty homegrown roses but don't care for the 'long stemmed red roses' from a florist. Just don't really like them at all. Much rather have country type flowers.

  8. Mosaic Mondays, what a fun idea, if you host again I would love to participate. I just started using a program 'Picasa' that does free mosaics. If you no of any other good programs out there, let us know!

  9. My go to flowers for decorating the patio are Wave petunias, purple and white, but for bouquets I love my hydrangea, and crepe myrtle. We only have sunflowers where the seeds from the bird feeder fall. I like several pots of Moss Roses too.

  12. Me, I love pinks and whites in the gardenm a bit of blue, soft droopy dreamy flowers -- peonies especially, which I have never grown!

But there I inherited masses of rudbeckia and bright daisies -- and I'm learning to love them. It would take me years to dig them up!

  13. gorgeous shot Mary - funny when I was at the gardens today, they had a voting bed so you could vote on your favorite summer flower - the colors were so bright and lush that I couldn't decide but the susans were definitely a front runner.

  14. Hi Mary! I hope your fingers are feeling better! Lovely black-eyed susans! I used to think a flower was not a flower unless it was red...don't ask me why. Now I am leaning toward pinks and purples. However, inside my French country house, I have lots of yellow sunflowers...faux, of course, because my kitties tend to play with or eat anything real! Enjoy the rest of your week!...Debbie

  16. I have always loved Black -eyed Susans which is probably fortunate since they are one of the few flowers that grow well in my garden. Love them mixed with Queen Anne's Lace.

  17. I don't have much of a green thumb... if it's not a gerenium I kill it :-( But gereniums seem to be pretty hearty little guys, so I have those :-)

  18. Oh Mary, I thought I was the only color snob! I wouldn't plant red or yellow flowers, then decided it would be ok to use those colors in the back yard...now, I like red and there is just something summery about black eyed Susans and sunflowers that makes me feel good. So my pink and purple and white color scheme is gone forever....

  19. About the only thing blooming in this Texas heat are the black-eyed Susans and geraniums and purslane. Whenever I finally figure out this mosaic thing, I will join you on Mondays! Haven't had the time to get the specifics down, even though I read your tutorial! Thick-headed, I guess!
