Master Gardener

A couple of years ago, I bought a bag of dahlia tubers at Home Depot. Then I put them on the back porch and there they sat for the next year.

This spring, after noticing that they had grown green shoots right in the bag, I decided to plant them in a pot on my deck. And they grew!

And they flowered. But I didn't stake them carefully, and the first bud to open was blooming with it's face on the deck. So I cut it and brought it inside.

And spent a half hour taking photos of it. Because that's what I do. ;)

Other than that, it's been a whirlwind week. I'm thinking I may take next week off from posting, to see of I can get a handle on all the things that I need to do around here. I'll see you In September. :)

  6. LOL. So I'm not the only one who buys bulbs and never gets them in the ground huh? LOL
Think how much happier that little flower is now - being shared with all of the world instead of face down on a porch. It was meant to be!
    Beautiful shots.

  13. Maz has a good point. Flowers want to grow, just give them the chance. I had one pot I put nothing in this year and it has 2 different petunias in it from 2 past years, just growing up a storm.

  14. I'm not usually a big fan of dahlias
but am always willing to be converted.
This one is so stunning and subtle...and beautifully photographed!
I used to have 2 acres of garden on Long Island but am now
reduced to weeding other people's patches.
    All best wishes.

  23. This is a beautiful flower and photo.... I can never do as well with close-ups. (Sounds like something I would do leaving them on the porch for so long!)

  24. How lovely ;--)
I've never tried to grow Dahlias but after reading your post I just might give them a try. I dropped by this morning for Mosaic Monday but I see you're taking some time off. I should do likewise, but since I've already posted ... I'll leave the link here for others who might happen by as I did with your Monday meme in mind ;--)
    Hugs and blessings,
