I've been so late this year getting my chrysanthemums. Some years I buy them as soon as they come out, and other years I don't get any at all. This year I seem to have gotten in just under the wire. Hopefully, we will not get a severe frost for a few more weeks yet, so I can enjoy their color.
I've gathered my mums on our small front porch, which is an area we pass by every day coming into and out of the house. You would think with all that traffic I would pay more attention to making this area look nice, but somehow it always gets overlooked. The bench is always on the porch but I've added most of the other things just for fall.
(Actually, the rather ragged rug came out of our mud room. And I think it ought to go on it's way to the dump!)
I set up a little basket here, with a homemade zucchini muffin from my favorite prepared foods and butcher shop, Perotti's. The basket is from Target, the cup was a thrift store find, and the pitcher belonged to my mother.
The brown transferware plate is by Churchill, from HomeGoods. I used a linen tea towel as a napkin.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, dear bloggers!
Beautiful setting. Looks very inviting. The colors of the mums are very pretty.

Hi Mary -- what a charming little scene. Love the leaf in the last shot; it looks as if it is DONE with the season, just no energy left to have color!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful pitcher; a treasure.
Happy October -- I haven't bought my mums yet! Just some pumpkins. I used to buy them from one of the 4 wholesale growers in our old town, but I haven't had a chance to get there yet.
Oh well. I just hate paying more than I have to!
Cass

ReplyDeleteHi Mary!
ReplyDeleteYour porch may be small but it makes up for it with character and charm. Looks like a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by with that delicious looking muffin and a cup of tea. Enjoy your cozy porch and have a wonderful weekend....:)
Mary, Your porch is just beautiful and warm and so inviting! I love all the textures; soft throws, the smooth wood, the rough basket and the gorgeous mums!!!
ReplyDeleteI think your "rather ragged rug" is so perfect for your fall porch! Leave it... at least until the really cold weather comes.
I am very late getting my porch fall ready. Tomorrow I'll finish it up. Hope it looks half as lovely as yours!!!!
Yvonne
I do wish I had a front porch. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even get any mums this year and I have access to the best grower out here. Her company supplies all the giant tubs of mums for Costco even. She has a great blog too which is how I found her and she is close to where I live.
What a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the fall weather! I still haven't gotten my mums yet...I hope to go tomorrow! Your photos are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Mary your porch looks so inviting, it is something we don't usually have on British houses, well not ones you can sit in and watch the world go by!!The last photograph of the leaf is so exquisitely simple but wonderful. I love all the other items you have there!! Have a great weekend, see you for Mosaic Monday. Jackie in Surrey, UK.
ReplyDeleteI believe you have definitively an eye for composition and a flair for making is all extraordinary with your photography. But it all comes down to this: an eye-and a soul open to Beauty. May you be blessed with them always.
ReplyDeleteMary! You have a such lovely, inviting porch. And you have styled it so beautifully in autumn colours. Very nice chrysanthemums. Jack Frost has been here and he took mine with him....
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
love the photographs as always and the flowers are so pretty - such wonderful autumn colours. LAst October I was in Savannah and the tubs of flowers were amazing.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend
Hi Mary, Your porch looks so inviting--the perfect spot for a cup of warm cider and that muffin, curled up with the wool throw! I just looked back at your Seth Thomas post. I grew up in Thomaston, CT (originally Thomas' Town) where the ST factory still is located. It has a huge clock tower which can be seen from Rt. 8 when you are driving North to Massachusetts. Terryville is the next town up Rt. 6. Both towns, of course, are named for those clock makers! Have a great day. Linda
ReplyDeleteI got a late start myself Mary and although that meant getting some mums for cut rate prices, they are looking a little worse for wear with the Nor'easter that blew through New York yesterday! But mums are a bright happy little spot in an otherwise desolate landscape aren't they?
ReplyDeleteLove your setting, the mums look perfect there!

ReplyDeleteYou've created such a cozy space and this reminds me that my entryway could certainly use some sprucing. I'll never get it to look the way yours does and don't toss that rug. It's got some good days left yet!
