Flower Power

Oh, but spring seems like such a long way away right now. The ground is frozen solid here, and painted in shades of brown and gray. Empty branches rattle in the wind, and the only birdsong to be heard is the raucous call of crows.

So I tend to search the cabinets and cupboards for my flowers. Anything pink or pastel and flowery gets dragged out at this time of year. I'll take my flowers anywhere I can find them, thank you very much. Here's what I found:

A small white Fenton vase in front of a rose-bestrewn plate. I just love the luminous glaze on the shell-shaped pitcher. The smaller dessert plate is Noritake.

A small basketweave plate with a reticulated edge. This is Wedgewood, and a thrift store find. The Homer Laughlin plate on the left is also from the thrift store, and the plate on the right is from my mother's collection.

A creamer and jampot with roses galore, backed by a tall chocolate pot, also covered in pink roses.

A small cup with children in pastels. This charming scene with an umbrella reminds me of April showers. Love it.

How do you bring spring into your winter house?

  6. Oh, my goodnes...Mary, I think you have the most fantastic collection of china I've ever seen outside of a flea market! For bringing in flowers and spring into my home in winter, I usually indulge in an occasional purchase of cut flowers. Sewing with floral, pretty fabric also helps...as does a lot of springtime daydreaming! ;o) Happy Day ((HUGS))

  7. That cup makes me smile!! I have pansies that make me smile--in front and back yards. I also just moved my computer area between two windows---makes the room more filled with light and makes me happy to look out both windows (I posted this yesterday). Also I just took a bright yellow bowl and filled it with my little Winnie the Poo guys---makes me smile. I'll have to show a pic of this on Thursday.

  10. Good morning Mary You have a lovely collection of china with flowers on it. We are lucky here in NC because we have hints of spring already. I have some miniature daffodils at my back door that have buds on them. But I remember when I lived in Canada and winter dragged on and on, I would buy a couple of pots of primroses. Their colors were so vivid, beautiful hot pink, deep purple and sunflower yellow! It always cheered me up. Hope you se the sun today. Rhondi

  15. Mary,

You have the most beautiful collection of dishes ever! I love that Wedgewood piece. I'm so hungry for Spring. For me, I switch out all of my candles. Trading pumpkins and other autumn scents for the lighter floral collections.

  24. Let me just move closer to the couch so that I have a soft place to land because I'm just swooning here over these pieces, especially the ones with roses! I'm getting excited because Autumn isn't too far away now, although you'd never know it with the heat wave we've had!
