We had some warm temperatures here on Monday and Tuesday, and I took the opportunity to get outside and soak up some sun. From now until March, I will be prowling the garden on every single temperate day to search for something green. Theoretically, I know that there will be no tempting bulb shoots piercing through the ground till at least the end of this month but still, I hope.
So here's the next best thing -- some glorious green moss. Isn't it the most beautiful color your spring-starved eyes have ever seen?
I also love the great, big rhododendron buds,
a promising Lenten lily,
and some small bearded iris shoots in a very protected spot.
OK, this starts my official countdown to Spring!
Thanks for sharing the signs of Spring. I don't have anything poking up in my yard yet. Have a great day. Janie
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I didn't get it to it this warm spell but the next one will begin some much needed clean up of flower beds. We had a fair amount of wind over the past few months and there are tons of leaves from the woods to clean up. I love to do it, though.
ReplyDeleteBoy, your rhodos are holding the promise of some gorgeous blooms. Can't wait til they are in bloom. I planted of chinese yellow rhodos last year and will be anxious to see how they overwintered.
Have the Best of Days........Rosie
Wow ........ all talk and two of the spring !!!!!! Hello Mary kisses
ReplyDeleteIt has been very warm here the last couple of days as well, and we have been outdoors as much as possible. I did notice that some of my daffodils are poking there heads out of the ground.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, I used to say I wanted moss carpet when I grew up and had a house. I have always thouht it was so soft and pretty.
To answer your question; yes, we did go to see National Treasure, Book of Secrets last week. My son loved it:) We do not go to the movies often, so it was a real treat.
Rhonda
I love moss. It is so intricate and soft. Thanks for sharing those photos of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks and I agree. You have bulbs coming up? We had some warm days here also. Hope it doesn't confuse the plants.
ReplyDeleteOkay...I am so envious that you have buds already!!! We won't see anything around here for a few months! I guess I will just have to admire yours from a far?!?!?! Love the moss too :o)

Oh Mary, I'm with you. I have my nose pressed against the glass of winter, ever so ready for Miss Spring to arrive. The grey days and lack of sunshine are chilling my bones and slowing my steps...thanks for the promising pictures.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dena
Oh, Mary, it still seems so far away! But buds do give hope that spring will indeed return again!
ReplyDeleteHappy dreaming!
Melissa
I wish...but unfortunately here in northern Illinois we're a LONG way from spring. I'll just travel along with you though because the green looks really lovely right now.
ReplyDeleteIt was too wet for me to go out into the gardens yesterday although it's nice to see green after all that white! I'm counting the days until gardening can begin in earnest. ~ Lynda xo
ReplyDeleteHi Mary. Isn't it fun looking for signs of spring? That's what I did the other day in my garden. A day or so ago I posted some great photos of my lenten roses. Come on over when youhave a chance and take a look. Rhondi
ReplyDeleteHave fun searching for green. Spring is just around the corner for you.
ReplyDeleteHere in my part of Australia it is Summer and we have a drought. Tough water restrictions make it a bit difficult to keep our gardens going and NO watering of lawns.
Today is 41 degrees(105 fahrenheit).
Alison
Signs of spring! It feels great to not walk around with a scarf and mittens!
ReplyDeleteLoved the sights of spring! I took a tour around my house too, but no new buds coming up here yet...
ReplyDeletePenny
Lucky you!... no green for me! Just WHITE WHITE WHITE... yuck!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy nature's early beauty!
Cielo
I'm with you all the way! Counting the days! Just love those little green sprouts!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

The moss is so beauiful...hope your warm weather lingers a little while longer. I'll be thinking of you in next few days...got lots of leaves and clean-up to do also.

I'm still in hibernation mode. I can usually make it through January and then I am desperate for spring to arrive.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing you GREEN photos. The cracks in our front walkway are filled with moss and I love it. Cammy
