Change is Good

Change is good, right?  This is our master bedroom, which has looked like this for a long, long time.

We do love it, and have not really wanted to change it.  But change has been thrust upon us.

We had a leaky roof this past winter, and some water damage.  And we also decided to have some cabinets installed around the window.  So some redecorating is in order.

So, any ideas?

  1. Your bedroom looks beautiful as is, but what does your dream bedroom look like? What an opportunity to do whatever would knock your socks off! Ever dream of a different color? Style? Arrangement of furniture? Change can be fun!

  2. Oh my...

Well, first things first. Thanks for stopping by my Brookville Daily Photo and leaving a comment. It is appreciated as much as I hope you will appreciate my return visit.

Ideas? Galore. I don't have a water damaged bedroom but I have the same stuff in it that we got when we got married in 1955. Blonde furniture. Imagine that after 5 kids and dogs and neighbors.

I would for sure go with Japanese style furniture and their bedroom designs. They are just flat-out lovely and pleasing on the eye.

I don't have a single link to give you but you can search with Google for Japanese bedrooms and you will always appreciate the finds more since you will have worked to find them.

Have a nice weekend. I envy you your budget.

  3. I love the nostalgic look of your room--it is so warm and comforting. Will you be able to keep the loveseat? I like it in a bedroom. Is the wallpaper stained - do you have to replace it? The only suggestion I might have is a new headboard- something a little more substantial, dark wood of course (cherry or walnut) with a graceful arch or curves--I can't really tell from the photo what your bed looks like. Keep us up to date! Vicki

  4. I forgot to tell you about the town. Yes, I did write a story about the town. Two of them. One is about all the kids who ever lived there. And the other is just about the town, the businesses, what people did and everything else including the churches. That one is actually still in print at lulu.com/popslinc/

  5. Your bedroom is so lovely that I can't imagine your having to do it over. I know that whatever you decide to do will be delightful. I hope that you won't go far off the path that you're already on, though, just because I love what you are doing now.

  16. Your bedroom is lovely already, but I know what you mean about a change. I think what would look nice is your home, is a golden yellow (not too dark) or buttery yellow, with brick red accents, like curtains etc. I have natural woodwork in my older 2 story colonial home, and I am going to do that in my dining room. It will make your bedroom warm and inviting, and cozy looking. I think it will go nicely with the style of the rest of your home. Just an idea. Let us know what you decide.

  17. Oh, man....built-ins around your windows are going to be fabulous. Room for lots of books and the little things you love.
Your English country bedroom has long been a favorite of mine!

  18. I haven't read the others, but that room screams for a windowseat. With drawers underneath. I grew up in a room just like that. *sigh

  19. When you close your eyes and imagine what your bedroom could look like, what do you see? Wallpaper? What kind? Bed linens? What color? What are the colors that appeal to you and what could you live with for the next several years?
    You're good at this.

  22. hello... I like the comment/idea about a window seat with shelfs...I'm considering doing this but don't have a lot of space.

is there enough room to have the loveseat at the foot of the bed?

Shame to have to replace all the fabrics/wall coverings...

This will be more fun than the fridge repair!

  24. Well, Mary, I think you should trust your own taste. It has served you well thus far, and you like it. When you have a room as you love it, I subscribe to the Eleanor McMillen Brown and Sister Parish doctrine of FRESHENING. Updated paint and fresh wallpaper bring a nice feeling to it. If I were you, I'd never second guess your own taste...as it is spot on.

  25. I see what looks like French Linen pillows on your bed, in back of your other pillows. I love that look. I love the look of the French General store, books etc. All that linen and monograms and you can still use your beloved red. It's a thot!
