I just wanted to show you some silverplate I picked up at the thrift store last week. I can't help it, certain things just call out to me. Dishes, tole trays, silverplate.
Can you see the pattern? I love the flowers. I got a set of ten forks, knives, teaspoons and soup spoons.
I don't really need them, but in some strange way they seemed to need me. I just could not leave them in the store.
Have you finished laughing yet?
No, I'm not laughing, but I am smiling.
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern, so delicate and pretty. And, I can see why they needed you. They knew a good home when they saw one.
are you kidding???..I'm jealous!!..ha...I LOVE silver, too..I pick odds & ends all the time...I especially love to find the dessert forks..I've started a nice collection...there's just something about it!!..thanks for sharing!!..lacy
ReplyDeleteNow that's a nice twist on things...they needed you. They're very nice and I'm sure that they did need your lovely home where they can be cared for by someone who appreciates their beauty.
ReplyDeleteI love your line" I don't really need them, but in some strange way they seemed to need me. " I know EXACTLY what you are feeling..... and it's not laughter it's sincerity...
ReplyDeleteit's just one of those things...love the pattern :)
ReplyDeleteyou are so fortunate to find such wonderful goodies...alas here in my parts no such luck.
have a wonderful day mary.
They are gorgeous!!! I feel the same way about a couple of birds' nests I found this weekend. Did I need them? No. But they needed to come home with me to hang above the girls' beds. Now are you laughing?!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteYOu did the RIGHT thing by not leaving them in the store! :)
Whatever floats your boat, life is too short
ReplyDeleteThey are beauitful! I just mentioned on my blog this morning how certain things seem to call out to me too.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day!
Is it ever about needing? I would have had to buy them as well;)
ReplyDeleteWell I am laughing...and I'm going to steal that excuse....I can't wait to say to my dear hubby, after a large purchase, "No sweetheart I didn't need it...but IT NEEDED ME"...Priceless!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful silver,I love it but can resist acquiring more (I have one set) because I'm just too lazy to polish it!
ReplyDeleteNo laughing here!! I think that all of us who collect something have those feelings. It is natural for us to be preservers and caretakers of what came before us. Sally
ReplyDeleteAm smiling. Love the bright silver, the background with the autumnal hues, the quiet. Nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, I totally understand. My husband doesn't fight it anymore...he just sighs when I come home with a load of books. :o)
ReplyDeleteI too am not laughing, and smiling just like Beverly. I know that feeling. Some things just move us and so they come home with us.
ReplyDeleteAnd then the closets and drawers are filled with our tresures.
A spilling over house here.
Have a great day
Becky
Mary - maybe the silver called out to you for a reason! Perhaps somehow you knew who it had belonged to! It's beautiful and reminds me of my mother's silver which I used yesterday when my cousins came to visit.
ReplyDeleteI love your one very close-up picture, it's gorgeous.
Silver is lovely. I just wish it didn't tarnish. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI found this lovely set last time we were antiquing in Kansas City. Finally decided not to buy it. Now I want it and we can't remember which antique store it was at. So always go with your first instinct when it comes to buying silver!
ReplyDeleteI love them! I need to find some just like that for me! I think you have better thrift stores than I do. Enjoy!
ReplyDelete*hugs*
Oh, they're beautiful! I love thrifted finds. The best in my book for sure!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Wow, I would have bought those too!!! Those are gorgeous! I never find sets like that...only 1 or 2 pieces.
ReplyDeleteOh thank-you-thank-you..'they needed you'..that explains so much, I will tuck that little jewel in my heart and only use it when I have too. ;o)
ReplyDeleteWith beautiful old silver cutlery one should not say no; and I do love the term, "they needed me"! I am always prepared to learn. Very lovely they are, Mary.
ReplyDeleteThis is the sort of thing that calls out to me too. And thank goodness you had the brains to buy the whole set. I'm still cringing about an episode twenty years ago when I bought just a couple of something and realized too late I should have bought it all.
ReplyDeleteI love the silver flatware--Someone recently said that you shouldn't buy anything that isn't calling your name- Obviously, they were calling your name!!! Now, if I could just find some just like them! Vicki
ReplyDeleteFollowed your links back from your kind comments on my sky watch posts and as much as your sky watch photos are lovely, got enchanted with all your creative posts here too. Thank you for sharing all your inspirational thrited ideas.
ReplyDeleteLove them.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you'll see this comment on an old post.
I collect old silver and thrill at the hunt of it, the search.
I usually just buy single spoons and keep a pottery jar on the kitchen table and a pitcher of spoons in the dining room. Don't you always need a spoon? I have an entire set of silver for every day. Using silver makes me feel special. I like to think of those who used it before me.

I'm not laughing....I'm jealous!!! Lots of old silverplate seems to need me as well :^)
ReplyDeleteGood for you....sharing your lovely home with those pretty forks and spoons! They will be so happy!
Do you ever hear the voices calling you to come find something at the thrift store. I sometimes do, and am almost always rewarded.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very funny take on the voices.
I just found your blog this evening and have been enjoying reading your older posts. I had to comment on the thrifted silver, this is one of the (many) things I cannot walk away from either. "It needed me" is the perfect description of that must-have-it-for-no-particular-reason feeling!
ReplyDeleteBest regards~
