Thrift Store Silverplate and Kate Spade

I stopped at my favorite thrift store yesterday. I had actually just been in there on Monday, but came away empty-handed. Since I was in the area again on Thursday, I stopped on the off chance that they had gotten some new stuff in the meantime. They seemed to have gotten a lot of new silverplate, so I found a cute little sauce boat (I feel a collection coming on), and some flatware -- the knives have monograms, and the spoons have a lovely etched design. I wish I could show you a closeup, but my camera doesn't want to focus that close.

I also picked up this Kate Spade polka dot purse for $10.

Do you suppose it's real, or a knockoff?

  4. You have a very good eye. The sauce boat is sleek and elegant. So is the purse, genuine or not.

  5. Really nice little sauce boat. Where do you find room for all your treasures? I am so running out of space to "show" them and I hate putting things "away", out of site. I have no floor space for another cabinet or hutch....woe is me!! Space or no space, I have to get out today to run errands and this is when I stop at my favorite thrift shop!! haha
Oh, and that cute purse? I'll bet it's the REAL THING....
    Have a sunshine day.

  9. What wonderful finds! I just mentioned on another blog that I don't have any silver because it is too damp here in Holland. You cannot keep it clean here. I love sauceboats.

  19. Great finds Mary! I love monogramed anything - and your flatware is gorgeous. The Kate Spade purse was a great find. My daughter once found what she thought was a Gucci purse at a garage sale one dark, rainy morning - only to get it home and read the words Gycchi :-} ... definitely a knock off :-} but still gives us a laugh when we think about it!

  24. Mary, really great finds. I love silver plate. What you found is really good - especially when cute ribbon or material is used to tie up the flatware. The purse is really cute too!

  25. Hi,
Those are great peices of silverplate. Does anyone know how to clean silver or silverplate?
I keep picking up peices here and there and I would like to clean them.
The purse is adorable. :) Bren

  26. It's a real bag--the label is in the right place, there's the right amount of space between the "s" and "p" in "Spade", the stitching is perfect and that bag is one of the 2000 Fall Collection I believe (could be wrong about the year but somewhere near that time). The fabric is an exact match and it's obviously top quality. Congratulations! You have such good luck!

  28. Oh Mary: A Kate Spade bag is a find I would be jumping around for. How wonderful. Valerie

  29. That kate spade is actually a counterfeit. It's a knockoff of her Graphic Dot collection, which had LEATHER handles.
