As Easy as Pie

Yes, it's true!  I did it.  I made an apple pie!  And it was much easier than I expected.

The apples smelled wonderful as I peeled them.  The smell actually reminded me of my mother, who always ate an apple at night, peeling it as we watched TV.  Nice memory.

No, I did not make the crust from scratch.  But that's just between you and me, right?  And when it came time to vent the top, I figured I might as well be creative.  My first Little Red House pie.

And yes, it tasted pretty damn good, if I do say so myself.  :)

Thanks for all your encouragement.  One slight problem, though.  Neither my husband nor my daughter likes apple pie.  So I will have to eat the whole thing myself.  What a shame!

  1. Hi Mary! Your pie looks fabulous and I'll bet it really does taste as good as it looks! I'm with your family though, I don't eat apple pie (unless it's drowned in ice-cream lol), but I do like a nice crisp apple like your mum. Wishing you a lovely day!

  5. You did it!!! And, it is beautiful. Are you going to eat the whole thing at once, or pace yourself? ;-)

No neighbor to split your pie with? Enjoy every bite! How could your family not like Apple Pie?

  9. You will have to make the ultimate sacrifice and eat that pie yourself! Congratulations - as I made my first apple pies this year, I totally understand your pride in this accomplishment!

  10. It looks delicious Mary and remember that apples are good for you (pretend the crust is too)! An Apple a day and all that! I can justify almost anything when it comes to food.

  11. That looks so good! I grew up eating apple pie...my grandmother was always making apple pies! She also used to peel apples and eat them everyday. She lived to be 96 (she was born in 1889) so an apple a day did keep the doctor away!

My daughter and I both LOVE apple pie so we could eat one in about 2 days!

  12. Great looking pie, hope that you enjoy every bite. There is nothing like a good piece of pie....first thing in the morning.
For some reason, I can't even make store bought pie crust, even the preformed ones flop all over. LOL. The filling tastes good, and no one ever complains.

  20. Hi Mary...your pie looked really good for what I assume was your first try...I never make crust from scratch and I think it tastes just as good. I'm making apple strudel tonight with my favorite Mutsu apples but unlike your family the Boss will eat the whole thing leaving me merely scraps....

  22. It looks delicious. And that's just such a shame about no one else liking it! hehe. It will be so terrible to have to eat it all yourself. I wish I lived close enough to come steal a piece.
You should be very proud of yourself. I think it looks like you did a FINE job. And I love the memory of your mom and the apple.
    *hugs*

  24. It looks so pretty! How I love the smell of an apple pie baking...um...now. Poor Mary had to eat all the delicious pie herself? Did you add milk? Ice cream? Whipped cream?

I think such a pie looks as wonderful as it surely tastes...and it tastes like Fall. : )
