Nature's Boldest Triumph

"Once more the liberal year laughs out
O'er richer stores than gems or gold:
Once more with harvest song and shout
Is nature's boldest triumph told."
                                                              John Greenleaf Whittier

Can you believe I have never made an apple pie?!  How pathetic is that?  Anyway, I've got nothing else to report from the Little Red House today, so I'll just wish you all a happy weekend.  :)

  1. Well, Mary. There's no time like the present. You bake lots and lots and lots of pies, and we'll all come for pie and coffee.

I promise to help wash the dishes. ;-)

  3. Well Mary, you just haven't lived until you have pulled that bubbling, spicy, golden pie out of the oven and served it warm to your precious family! Why, it's easy as pie:>) If you need an easy recipe just let me know.

  7. Few things are as yummy as a warm from the oven Apple Pie with ice cream ( or cheddar cheese for Vermonters)! It is never too late and Thanksgiving is a comin'.

PS. As much as I love to bake and cook, I can't make a decent pie crust...ever. Thank goodness for Pillsbury.

  10. Mary - I've never baked an apple pie either. Actually, I've never baked a pie, period. Actually, I don't bake. Both my daughter's do despite the example I set for them.
I do however go to Wightman's and get their frozen, unbaked, apple pies. That's as close as I'll get to ever baking one.

Are those macoun apples in your picture?

  12. Hi Mary,

I just made one. I am not a baker but I make killer apple pie. I used my "quick method".

    1. buy an Oronoque pie crust. use a fork to press edges of crust for your thumb.

    2. 7 or 8 apples
    3/4 C sugar
    2 tbls. flour
    1/8 tsp salt
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 tsp nutmeg
    2 tbls butter
    3. Bake 350 for 45 mins. sometimes I put a little wash of milk on top.

Now most important don't tell anyone, unless they ask of course that the crust is store bought...lol

I hope you will try my recipe...it's so easy and I think you'll enjoy :)

    Kathy :)

  14. Well, if I lived closer I'd bring you one fresh out of the oven. I just bought a bag of Winesap apples and making pies is on my To Do list for this weekend.

    Does the thought count?

  17. Mary,

You need to make an apple pie. The first time I made one for my then future husband, he said, "That tasted just like the pie my grandmother used to bake for me". That was enough for me to continue baking those apple pies for him 28 years later.
