Remember when I told you that we were going to make over our bedroom? We had these wonderful cabinets and window seat added, and I'm supposed to be stripping the wallpaper. Yeah, I'll get to that soon...
Anyway, I've been looking at fabrics for bedding and window treatments. Here are a few that I'm considering.
There are four white doors in the room, in addition to the white cabinets. We will probably paint the walls in a very light taupe or beige or cream, so that the doors don't stand out too much. There is also a white chair rail.
I really like this toile (above) with the birds on a white background. I'm used to having a very bright bedroom, and I think this would be wonderful, with some black painted furniture, and maybe a headboard upholstered in beige linen.
This toile (above) is totally wonderful, too. In fact, I like this so much I may use it in the kitchen. Don't you think it would look great with my kitchen cabinets?
This large print is wonderful, and I love the combination of browns and blues. But it is rather pricey, and I'm not sure I like it as much as the toiles.
Here is a lamp that belonged to my aunt. I think it will look great with either toile. Cute, no?
Well, that's all so far... Care to vote for your favorite?
Hooray for you for making the apple pie! The delicious aroma in your home while it is baking is truly glorious! I vote for the middle toile. LOVE IT!!! PS I have been a follower of your blog for awhile and love the way your sweet home is such a part of you!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interested to see what you choose! I love toile! Sounds like the bedroom will be very soothing and serene.
ReplyDeleteYou aren't having trouble taking the wallpaper off, are you? Plenty of Dif and hot water will usually do it. Good luck! I'll be stripping a living room myself tomorrow.
My favorite is the one that you may use in your kitchen. Either of them are wonderful and will look fantastic. Yes, the sweet lamp will look terrific with either of your choices. (FWIW, I don't care for the pricey one at all.)
ReplyDeleteI like them all, too. I say get some of each. They really do all blend quite well. I adore the blue, but if it is too pricey, you could consider a few pillows from it.
ReplyDeleteI love mixing patterns.
Well Mary, you know I am a toile girl all the way! I love them both but I think I like the darker background one better. I know whatever you choose will be beautiful:>)
ReplyDeleteToile freak here. I vote for it all.
ReplyDeleteI adore all of them! My first choice, if I HAD to choose, would be the middle one.
ReplyDeleteI love that check fabric you have paired with it, too.
NonnieM
your bedroom will be gorgeous Mary! I love the second darker toile, and the lamp is a treasure. The pricey larger blue fabric would be lovely covering a chair. Can't wait to see the finished room! Sue
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI vote for the toile and the check. The lamp looks great!! Looking forward to the finished room.,
The apple pie looked yummy. I don't make my own crust either, nobody has to know, lol
Have a great day, Janie
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI love the toile in the middle-it looks like it would give the room a nice soft golden glow.I look forward to seeing the new look whatever you choose.
Take care,
Carolyn
that's tough...I love them all!!..the middle one will look wonderful in your kitchen...I'm leaning towards the blue for your bedroom...the lamp is to die for..good luck!!..lacy
ReplyDeleteohhh, love all the fabric choices. Check and any one of the toiles would be fantastic. I want that bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI don't envy the wallpaper stripping. I've done way to much of that in my own 200 year old home. ugh
mary
i would tend toward the darker toile and add accents with the lighter...would look simply fab.
ReplyDeleteI guess I see things a little differently than most. I LOVE the first toile with the birds, I think it looks like you. It is not the traditional people/farm scene toile that is so common. I can really see it with the black furniture and headboard as you described!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the second picture.
ReplyDeleteYou can't go wrong with any of the fabrics, in my opinion!! How about a pillow or two in the pricey blue - it is too beautiful to ignore. Sally
ReplyDeleteOh Mary, I love them all, I don't think I'm much help! I can't wait to see what you decide :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dena
I say follow your instincts and use the first toile in your bedroom and the second in your kitchen. I went back and looked at your kitchen and the brown toile will be wonderfully warm and rich in there. Can't wait for the pics. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMary, thank you so much for the GORGEOUS notecards! Your photography is even more stunning in person; and the cardstock and packaging so well done. I would love to order more soon. Those little white pumpkins on the copper tray would be really great this season...
ReplyDeleteThanks again,
Marcia
I've recently discovered your blog and truly enjoy the lovely photos of your home. My vote is for the lighter toile because I am fond of birds! Like Vee, I'm not crazy about the "pricier" fabric. I'm looking forward to seeing what you choose. I'm sure it will be amazing. ~Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Mary -
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is going to look wonderful when you're finished. Can't wait to see what you decide. I like them all. That lamp is perfect!
~Adrienne~
How exciting Mary!
ReplyDeleteOh my word these are gorgeous!!! If you only knew how much I loved toile..seriously the second picture brought tears to my eyes..that is the most gorgeous fabric and it would be fabulous anywhere you put it...For the life of me I don't know why I am so afraid to do a room in toile...I am so afarid I will mess it up but just seeing your post today has just confirmed the longing that I have for toile...could you please tell me the maker or where to get some of that toile in the second pic....beautiful girl..just beautiful ...I can't wait to see what you choose to do in there!
ReplyDeleteMe again..it is the fabric in the third pic down that I was talking about..the darker golden...brown one...sorry! lol
ReplyDeleteThe first toile is my favorite. I think it would look stunning with your taupe walls, white trim and black furniture, as you said. The gold background toile seems more appropriate for a kitchen or dining room, to me. And I don't really care for the blue one. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some great choices. I don't know how you will choose just one!
ReplyDeleteI like the first toile with the birds. It is neutral enough that you can add throw pillows to add a pop of color. The lamp is a real treasure.
ReplyDelete- Suzanne, the Farmer's Wife
I just LOVE that first toile with the birds. Definitely my favorite. You have wonderful taste. I cannot wait to see the room finished.
ReplyDeleteWhat great fabrics. I have to say I'm partial to the toile.
ReplyDeleteI know that once you get it pulled together it will look fabulous. You've such a good eye!
Oh, gee I would have a hard time deciding as they are all lovely. I might choose the middle or the first one....I'd have to see it in context. They are all pretty!
ReplyDeletesuzanne
Mary,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me who makes the middle toile? I think it is just perfect for your kitchen and perhaps something in my house too. For your boudoir I like the first toile with the black furniture and linen headboard. Very classic!
Janet
Toile is always, always, always so classy to me. You couldn't match the lamp and that fabric any better! It's lovely together. All and all, the fabrics are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Any of those choices will look great!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Ohhhh thanks so much for the info girl..you are so kind!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love them all, they blend so well together...can you use all of them ?? I just love a check!!
ReplyDeletePretty lamp Mary.
Sorry I was no help, I know whatever you choose will be the right choice, can't wait to see !!!
Kathy :)
Mary, I LOOOOVE them all! They will be perfect in your charming home! If your cabinets and built-ins are white, I think the first toile would be best. I agree that the second toile would be perfect for your kitchen. And the blue, well it is dreamy--I do absolutely love it also, but I think it would work best on a small upholstered chair. I love the check too! Vickib
ReplyDeleteOM goodness! I love the second picture of the toile also. Just beautiful fabric. Would also go great in your kitchen. I vote for that one.
ReplyDeleteLove them all....my fav is the second toile. The first toile is running a close second!
ReplyDeleteI love the first toile, the one with lamp sitting on it. I think it looks best with the checks, too. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteOH My Gosh Mary; I really like them both, but if I really had to pick, I would go for the first one. That is my favorite. But which ever you choose your bedroom will be great looking.
ReplyDeleteHugs;
Alaura
Cute YES. The brown toile with the birds. Love it with the lamp.
ReplyDeleteOh-h-h-h Mary!.....what a wonderful choice to have!
ReplyDeleteI adore the birds, because I'm a birder and lover of all things toile.
Would you?....may I ask?.....give me a hint where I might find some?
(I do hope that is not rude. I'm of the belief that it's most complimentary to *copy* those you admire).
I just know the room will be another cosy love nest, as is the rest of your home.
I like the first toile with the birds. It would look great the way you described it. The second one is too busy I think. And I like the blue in the third but not the pattern so much.
ReplyDeletethis room will be spectacular! really, you have come up with great choices. (everyone agrees!) we all cannot wait to see the completed room! jkj p.s. i am so glad janet @ housepeepers saw this post because she is looking for a brown toile. are your fabric shops chains or individually owned? i cannot find a brown toile in socal. atleast no place i have been in has it.
ReplyDeleteMy pick would be the Blue & brown combination. It is such a soft look and the fabric is lovely!
ReplyDeleteAPPLE PIE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES...ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS HOMEMADE !!
ReplyDeleteThere's no way I could chose between these great fabrics. Whatever you choose will look just like it belongs at Little Red House...They are every one just beautiful !
I love the toiles. I say do the first in your bedroom and the seconded in the Kitchen. Work some blues in in painted furniture instead of the third fabric, that way your are beautifying and saving a little money.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that lamp. I can't wait to see the room all done. I know that you will make it look marvelous!
*hugs*
I love them all. I'm so not voting! But I would LOVE that lamp! So pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love witht he middle one! That is gorgeous!!! You have to use that somewhere...kitchen or bedroom.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteoh. no question about it. the first one. you must have toile and that one would be fabulous! so sophisticated and classic. Classic-fabulous-elegant, not classic-homey like your bedroom before. can not wait to see the finished room!
xoxo~
Abbie
I forgot to mention, this room needs a landscape portrait. I'm thinking that one of your photos, My Symphony, would look very nice framed on one the walls. Surround yourself in your art, Mary.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely!
xoxo~
Abbie
The problem is... I like them ALL!!! I look forward to seeing the final look though - can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary
ReplyDeleteAll the choices are great. You can't go wrong no matter which one you choose!
Hugs, Rhondi
I love the third picture and then, the second ones best. All are gorgeous but those are my favorites. Oh how I love the colors. So elegant but warm, serene, peaceful. This is going to be such a beautiful room it makes me tear up. I am such a sucker about things like that! : )
ReplyDeleteLove,
Sue
I read your blog frequently, love your home. I love the colors you are working with and can't wait to see the outcome. I think either of the first two toiles are beautiful with the check fabric and would work well, the blue fabric, not so much, just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThe toiles you have selected will look fabulous against the black furniture. Good luck with the redecorating, it is great fun isn't it? I consider it as doing my bit to help fuel the economy :)
ReplyDeleteLike the pie crust with initials, cool idea.
I really like the bird toile. Funny, I have been thinking about redoing my house in softer whites, browns, grays...spa colors, softer, more soothing. Lovely choices you have made. Can't wait to see what you do..love your sweet home.
ReplyDeleteMary, I've meant to comment on this. My favorite is the gold toile. That said, I wonder if the brown wouldn't look better in your bedroom as it is more airy in feel. You had a small pattern in there before with plenty of light ground. On walls, I wonder if that woud not feel more open. It also looks great with the lamp. The small buffalo check plaid is the greatest. Please tell me who makes that fabric. I have a small Parsons chair I'd love to have done in that buttery rich color. The blue is exceptional, but I don't feel it is right for the scale of your home as a spread or on walls. It would, however be a great accent on a pillow, a lampshade or perhaps a wastebasket with some matching gimp or braid as trim. Ditto the lampshade. Since you have blue accents, it would pick up nicely. You have impeccable taste.
ReplyDeleteaghhhh! Sorry for the typo. WOULD look better....
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely vote for the brown and blue. I love the first one as well, but too much of the same color won't make anything stand out ??? (the quilter is speaking here, of course with furniture and the whole context it might not be the case...)
ReplyDeleteI'm impatient to see the first results of your makeover !!! I'm starting to plan things in my house, but I have to keep the practical stages for next year's summer holidays. That will give me plenty of time to plan ahead carefully.
could you share the name and manufacturer of the gold toile? Thank you
ReplyDeleteNo.... every swatch is my favorite. I can't wait to see what you pick though...
