Thrifty Miss

Last week, I took a ride out to a cute little thrift store called Top of the Barn.  It's about 30-40 minutes from my house.  The weather was glorious, and the drive takes me through some beautiful old villages and farmland.

When I arrived, I was happy to find that they were having a 50% off sale.  So I got this beautiful old lamp for $2.  Yes, that's right, two dollars!!!  And it works, too.  Just needs a shade.

Please reserve your applause till the end of the post.  ;)

This is the church which runs the thrift shop.  Isn't it charming?  I love that steeple, with it's gingerbread trim.  And those twin porches -- so pretty.

As I got out of my car, I could hear the honking sound of lots of geese.  There is a river directly across the street from the church, and these Canadian geese were enjoying the fine day.  There were actually lots more, but the rest were camera shy.

Downriver a little ways was this lovely little blue bridge.  So pretty shining in the sun!

So that was my little trip to the thrift store.

Now you can applaud.

  3. Morning! Don't you just love a good trip to the thrift store? Isn't that just the best. May I tell you my personal favorite thrift story? My hubby and I were headed out for a day of antiqueing and I needed to make stop for the little girls room-we ended up finding a thrift store and I convinced my hubby to go in for just five minutes. Reluctantly, he came in with me. I headed for the dishes and things and he was looking at furniture or something. After my five minutes were up I started to look for him and found him standing beside some furniture with the most ghostly look on his face......he was standing beside a Hitchcock chest of drawers and hutch. I had had some Hitchcock furniture in my bedroom growing up and that furniture ended up getting burned along with my mom's house. I made up my mind I needed one, just one piece of it and went shopping only to find the prices prohibative. I walked out of the furniture store thinking -well this is not going to happen! A few years after this, the Hitchcock company when out of business so I totally flushed my dream and that was that. Until that day at the thrift store. The furniture was beautiful with tags still on. I love well made furniture and you just can't find it any more unless you pay huge prices and really travel to find it. I now have these pieces sitting in my den and marvel every day. You just never know what you're going to find at the thrift store.

I am under the weather with the flu. And off and on all weekend, read your blog starting from the beginning. We have a lot in common. Your blog is a real pleasure to read and I thank you for sharing so much about yourself.
I don't have a blog of my own. I wish I could share some pics with you sometime.

Have a great morning! Thanks for listening to me post about my thrift shop adventure!

  5. *Clap* *Yay* *Wow*

How do you do it? I think that I must go looking for a thrift shop. I hope that you'll show us when it's placed with a new shade, too.

Look at all those geese! They look so pretty...wonder if the locals welcome them or wish that they'd move on already.

  18. Applause?? How about a rousing standing ovation with stoming, screaming and yelling? 2 dollars is amazing! That is a beautiful lamp! I can just see you grabbing it and the little beads of sweat on your forehead popping out...so nervous that this price was wrong...clammy hands, heart pounding...you crept up to the counter and held your breath as they rang up the sale. Quietly, slowly you took your find and left the store only to get to your car, shut the door and sing at the top of your lungs, "Hallelujah! Hallelujah!"
Okaym so this is probably not exactly how the sale went but hey...it IS lovely!

    Love,
    Sue
