The Big Picture

Several of you have asked me recently how I resize the photos on my blog, so I thought I would do a little tutorial today to show you how.

The photo above is an example of the large size that Blogger automatically loads.

The photo below has been resized using the "Edit Html" option when creating a post.

Here is how I do it:

  1. In order to have room for the resized photos, you must use the Minima Stretch template.  You may find that by clicking on "Customize" at the top of your blog, then by clicking on "Pick New Template."  You will find Minima Stretch in the first column, second row.
  2. Load a photo, then click on "Edit Html."  Search through the html code to find the width and height.  This bit of code will read "width:400px; height:266px."  (That is for a horizontal photo; for a vertical photo the numbers will be reversed.)  Change the 400 to 640, and the 266 to 425.  Click on "Save Now."
  3. Now find the bit of code that reads "s400."  Change the 400 to 640.  Click on "Save Now."

That's all there is to it.  I'm certainly no computer whiz; if I can do it, anyone can do it.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me: mrcarroll@optonline.net.

  3. Thanks for doing this, Mary. I am sure I am not the only one that wants large photos. Now, my next question..will changing to the STRETCH template change the look of our blog dress??
And, another question..how in the world do you learn things like this?
    YOU ROCK, MARY GIRL !!

  4. I've helped two bloggers switch over to Minima Stretch this past week. It really is the best format and wish more photo bloggers would use it.

Have you tried Windows Live Writer yet Mary? If you have a PC it's a great program, and it's easy to resize pictures without adjusting the html tag.

Are you ready for warmer days?

  7. Thanks Mary! I have learned so much from you in observing the pictures you take. I am working on a post for Friday on Forget-me-not flowers and took the sweetest pictures just getting close and zooming in. Thanks for your inspiration!

  14. Annie -- Absolutely I'm going!

Sit A Spell -- It says "Saxon China" on the bottom. I just have the sauce boat, another of the crazy things I collect... ;)

A note to everyone -- you cannot resize photos if you use the "Cutest Blog on the Block". You must use Minima Stretch as your template.

  15. Good tutorial, Mary!
I've been using Windows Live Writer and in that I can make my pictures large as well, but for those that don't, this is excellent.
