Well, I spent yesterday morning removing the entire contents of our master bedroom closet, so that the carpenter could cut two more doors in it.
I rearranged furniture in my son's room, so that we could spend the next three nights in there while our room is painted.
I carried endless bags of garbage out to the cans, and made up yet another bag of clothes to bring to the thrift store.
We are storing much of the contents of our master bedroom in my son's room, so I had to move and stack boxes out of the way there to make sure that we could actually get in and out of the room at night.
I washed sheets and changed bedding. I aired quilts and flufffed pillows.
I replaced the entire contents of our pantry.
There is still a good three days work on the master bedroom. Then I'll have to move everything back. And vacuum. A lot.
Oh, boy.
But it was a beautiful morning, so I took a few minutes to photograph some of my favorite things -- little china sauce boats. The shell-shaped boat belonged to my mother. Isn't that glaze amazing? I found the other one at a thrift store for $4.50. Love the little roses. And the platter they are sitting on is also a thrift store find. Don't you love those ruffled edges?
OK, I'm happier now. China does that to me. And thanks for listening. :)
Take a deep breath. Just imagine how beautiful everything is going to be when you finish. I know that I can hardly wait to see it all.
ReplyDeleteYour china makes me smile, too. ;-)
Oh, yes...nothing in the world like having a nice cup of tea and NEW old china to perk oneself right up...
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your new bedroom. I remember the first time on RMS that I saw your lovely bedroom ....and fell totally in love with the softness and beauty of it all. I am sure the new do on it will be just as lovely..
I'm exhausted! It'll all be worth it SOON!
ReplyDeleteI understand Mary, just remember, you can't make anything beautiful without first making a huge mess! (That's the way it is in MY house!) But I know it will be lovely when you're done. I love that shell boat, fantastic!
ReplyDeleteTake heart, Mary ... the mess is just BEGINNING. :-P
ReplyDeleteKeep breaking those eggs; the omelette will be worth it in the end.
Cass
The china is just beautiful! Sounds like you are working awfully hard, but I know in the end you will be so happy in your new bedroom. I went through the same thing just a few months ago and I am in the middle of mess again redoing bathrooms. You will be so proud soon and can show us all the results! Don't work too hard today!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're better now :) Woo hoo your room is almost done that should also please you :)
ReplyDeleteKathy :)
Just think how wonderful it's all going to look!
ReplyDeleteoh Mary - It's going to be beautiful. I know though what a pain it is.
ReplyDeleteThe messes made on the way to a beautiful master bedroom will be worth it in the end. It doesn't seem that way in the middle of it, though!
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and vent, sometimes it just makes you feel better, and when this is all over, you get a brand new beautiful bedroom!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just need a good whine. And a good wine too.
ReplyDeleteIt will be worth it in the end, but you already know that.
ReplyDeleteI like how china calms your soul. I think it's sweet. Just like these delicately beautiful little pieces.
I'm here smiling. Because we've spent the past year and then some renovating the entire house. (Not us personally. My husband is a psychiatrist and insists that's all he's doing!) Moving things from one room, then to another, then to another. Losing things in the process. Along with much of my sanity. Hold tough. Spend time in the garden. Breathe evenly. It will be over and then it will be worth it.

That china would make me happier too! What lovely pieces. I look forward to seeing the repainted bedroom. laurie
ReplyDeleteChina whispers sweet nothings into my ears too! These are beautiful pieces. I especially love the shell shaped one!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds so labor intensive; I'd be a little overwhelmed, too. If I were closer, I'd help you tug and lift and pack and haul and then I'd sit around and watch you fluff it all back together again. That would be so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI hope your room comes out beautiful Mary! It's a lot of work and a real hassle but it should be worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteThe dishes are beautiful! Can't say I've ever seen a gravy bowl like that before. It's beautiful!
LOL, well, Milk Glass cheers me up. But my tea cup collection is a close second. Is the mess of redoing stuff in your house horrible? I'm SO ready for the kitchen to be finished!
ReplyDeletei love seeing all the lovely things you have, but i really am curious about the storing of it. do you have a walk-in china closet for all your finds? cannot wait to see the finished bedroom! jkj
ReplyDeletehi jkj,
ReplyDeletelittle red house is pretty much bursting at the seams. It would be wonderful to have a walk-in china closet! We have four cabinets of varying sizes in the dr, and some more storage in the kitchen... I think I'm at the point where I have to get rid of something before anything else comes in the house! :)
Mary
What a wonderful post today. The gravy boat got to me with those itty bitty roses. You post the most beautiful things! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteShhhh...listen...just between you and me..when I check my comments? And I see you there?...now THAT'S when I catch my breath!! And I never even followed movie stars! :)
Do you think maybe decorating is...a genetic thingy or (oh goodness!) am I a "groupie?" LOL
Hugs...
