Silver or Gold?

I've been playing with dishes again. Instead of doing...oh, a hundred and one other things that need doing in this crazy season.

Yes, sad to say, it takes me several tries of different settings to decide what I will do for Christmas dinner. It's a pain in the neck, but hey, someone's gotta do it! :)

Hence, the question: silver or gold? What do you think?

  1. I have to admit that the Red transferware with the silver centerpiece is my favorite, maybe because I have those same dishes! I only have the dinner plates though and have been looking all over for salad plates to go with them. Can I ask where you got the salad plates?

  2. Ok, I looked again and I love the silver dishes too:>) Sorry, I am no help at all!

  3. I say gold, Mary. I didn't even hesitate. I think that the gold charger and plates just seem more festive. And that's only because we tend to use our silver through out the year. But I have no doubt that whatever you use, it will look GORGEOUS!

    Love,

  4. The only solution to this wonderful problem is to have two dinner parties and use the silver for one and the gold for the other! I adore them both :-)

  7. GOLD! I love the place setting in the fourth photo. To me absolutely everything you set out says Merry Christmas! And it says it in an English country manor style. :)

  10. Oh, how pretty these all are!
OK, my vote is for the red and GOLD. There's always been a richness with those two colors.....uhhh, wait just a second, looking here, thinking...ok, seriously, the red and the SILVER. So festive and elegant..Yep, it's the red and SILVER..for sure! Oh, hold on a minute, the GOLD....no....the SILVER....OH, MARY, I could never decide in a hundred years. Really, they are all so pretty, you could just shut your eyes and point and choose that one. Very beautiful! I admire your dish collection so much and love looking at it.
    Happy day, bj

  11. Mary,
My first thought was the silver with the red Spode. Of course the gold looks great too and perhaps more formal. I am getting dish envy, vignette envy and Christmas decor envy all at the same time.EEK!

  14. Simple -- Gold for Christmas -- and silver for the New Year ..... because thats how I set my table for the Holiday season! Gold has the deep warmth to it -- and silver reminds me of the bright promise of the New Year ......

  16. Hi Mary...gold is for Christmas, but oh how I love silver on a table. A table decorated in silver is not only elegant but romantic as well.

I finally got up my Christmas decorations last night. Come see them. Stop by my house in the roses soon. Maybe we can even have a cup of tea :)

Have a wonderful day, my friend

  20. What a hard decision! They are each so beautiful. I love the silver best - reminds me of snow and winter. If I had the pieces you have to put the gold setting together I wouldn't be able to decide, either. Let us know what you decide. ~Adrienne~

  24. What fun to be able to play with such beautiful things! You have lovely treasures and know how to use them so well!

I adore silver but love gold as well...know help am I?

I even mix the two sometimes, it depends on how I am using them.

I agree with others..gold at Christmas and silver at New years.

Whatever you choose, I know it will be just lovely.

    Hugs,
    Sue

  25. I am naturally more drawn to anything red, and that gold & red setting does look more festive, but the silver setting is so classically elegant. hhhhmmmmm hard to choose, but for Christmas, I'd go with festively red & gold!

Gold for Christmas! It is all gorgeous. The gold looks so traditional, the others are out of a magazine! You could party all week! I'll be there! LOL~Thanks for the ideals! Are any of these dishes thrift finds? ~Rosemary
