Little People, Big...Desk?

There is a special place in my heart for little things. I'm not sure why -- maybe because I grew up in this little house, or because I'm on the shorter side myself. I just seem drawn to little things. And so, here are a few sweet little statues that perch on my desks at home...

This little guy is marked "Made in Occupied Japan" on the bottom. I guess that makes him rather rare. Does anyone know how long Japan was occupied? I've got to Google that.

Isn't this tiny maiden riding on a donkey so sweet? I find myself wanting to make up stories about her. Where is she riding to? Did she just come from a meeting with her sweetheart? Do I need to tweak my meds?

Finally, this tiny dog reminds me of the old RCA dog, or maybe the dog from the Spanky and Our Gang shows. Does anyone remember those? God, am I ancient or what?! Actually, I guess I should be thankful to be able to remember anything -- I swear motherhood (especially of teenagers) fries your brain. But that's a whole other post.

  1. Adorable little figures. I remember the RCA dog, I think, My memory is fading too! I am glad it's just not me. I was beginning to worry. Before Kids I could recall so many things. Now I have trouble remembering if it's my turn to pick up after school.lol Have a great weekend, Mary

  2. Sweet little figures, Mary. I like how you have them displayed. I tend to keep mine little things like that tucked away because....well...they seem too little!

My mother always tells me that anything that says "made in occupied Japan" is more valuable.

  3. I love your little figures. it's so fun you think up stories about them :-)

The other day my pregnant daughter, who is brilliant and well spoken (and, just a little impatient with her mother when I can't seem to recall where a story is going) paused half through something she was recalling for me and just stared into space distractedly. I giggled at her and said "See, Honey, you are already losing brain cells to that precious baby!" I'm not sure she found it too funny, yet!!

    Have a great weekend.......Rosie

  4. Such sweet little figurines Mary. I loved the show "Our Gang" :-} My favourite was when Alfalfa ate the soap sandwich and when he sang (to impress Darla) he sang big bubbles :-}
    Have a great weekend Mary!

  6. Good Morning Mary! :) Those little figurines are so sweet! I see her running away.. perhaps to meet her sweetheart! ;) And she just took her father's only donkey, so she can not go back home or she will be scorned and beaten and forced to sleep in the barn with the ass she stole! ha! and you think your loosing it!
    Have a fabulous day!

  7. As always Mary this is a lovely "little" post. I vote RCA dog. Gosh - thanks for the black and white TV memories! Like Abbie's humorous comment, I think you have us all conjuring up stories about the little maiden on the donkey. Oh, the places she'll go!
My MIL and I used to look for anything marked "Made in Occupied Japan at flea markets and yard sales - dd is right in that they are very valuable.

  11. Your figures are just ever so sweet. I too like small things (as I do big things... what does that make me...?) and these little ones are lovely. By the way, Moonstruck (ref your previous post) is one of my favourite films that I too can watch several times over.

  12. Hi Mary...I had an almost identical figure to your lil man there but mine was mostly blue and kitty knocked him off the vanity and he broke in too many pieces to be fixed....I like the lil doggie...so cute!

  13. your figurines remind me of my mother's figurines. They became quite popular when I was growing up. She has figures of girls, boys, dogs, and birds. This makes me want to fly home and help her display them!

  14. Hi Mary,

I love your little things -- that little dog is adorable :) I'm sure that somewhere in the fine print of pregnancy they advise us that we willingly forfeit all rights to memory, knowingly donate our brain cells, etc. but I was too busy eating and trying to see my feet to read it. I take it I was not alone.

  24. Thanks for sharing your little figures. My mom gave me her figurine collection -- hers are all dogs. I added some more Occupied Japan figures to her collection, but I have them all packed away. I suppose I should pull mine out and display them somehow. You've inspired me to think about that!

  25. Hey Mary! Check out my blog when you get a chance...I've put a certain little dog picture on there I think you'll remember from RMS (I was the was with the dog print you liked and you were going to swap that for your red chest in your dining room)! Whatever happened with that deal? Anyway, I've put my bathroom on my blog with a little shout out to you!
    Best - Judy
