Spring Fling

Lets have a spring fling, shall we? I'll set the table, you bring the snacks. I've been dying for a tiny piece of cake, or one of those little fruit tarts. Do you think you could bring some of those?

I'm a dish-a-holic, and the daughter of a dish-a-holic, so I have loads of mismatched plates that are just crying out for a chance to get together. So no two table settings will match, but you don't mind, do you?

Would you care to choose your setting? They are all from the thrift store, or from my mother's collection.

Which is your favorite?

  1. Oh, yes! I'll gladly make the treats for a chance to come and sit at your beaufiful table! Any of the settings will be fine for me, they all look lovely:)

How do Cherry Cream Cheese Tarts sound?

  2. I love them all but the first picture transports me to another place and time :-)

Penny probably just drools when she sees all your beautiful dishes. You better watch your back or they may end up in one of her amazing mosaics. HA!

  4. OK< I want the plate with the blue flowers! Although, each plate looks gret! I'm sure the "mismatching" table still looks quite beautiful!

Dessert? Creme brulee! (Ummm...I'll stop at the bakery, can't make that!)

  5. Good Morning, Mary!

I love the 3rd one the best! And it just so happens that I made pumpkin pecan cupcakes with cream cheese icing last night! (Not very spring-like, but very tasty! I'm having one for breakfast!)

And Tara - I'm making Creme Brulee on Sunday for the first time. It seems like a pretty simple recipe - I'll keep you posted!

    Smiles,
    Amanda:)

  7. I am on the way right now with some tarts and a tote bag big enough to slip some of those plates into! Not really, that would be very wicked of me, but I would want to! My favorite is the little blue flowers tied with a bow, but since I am a dish freak too (and I mean that in the nicest way) I really love them all:>)

  11. Lovely. Just lovely. I'd be happy to bring dessert for the fling. Mini cheese-cake tarts ok? I'm the granddaughter and daughter of dish-a-holics which may explain why I'm not! Ha. My favorite is the next to the last setting....blue flowers. Enjoy your day.

  13. Oh, my...I will take Number One, please and I will bring a piece of my Strawberry Cake with Fresh Strawberries (on my blog today) for us to share.
Beautiful dishes and my very favorite way to set a table is by using all the different patterns....I just love it!

  17. Lovely settings! I will bring along some shrimp cocktails -- and some silky smoked salmon to enjoy with the pinky dishes ..... and perhaps a lemon tart with blueberries for the pretty blue dish? And of course -- a pretty wine -- a crisp white pinot grigio! Or perhaps a buttery chardonnay?

Cheers! and here's to a Spring Party! Jan at Rosemary Cottage

  18. Oh, I'll be right there! I especially love the last picture. It shows off the beauty and style of each of the plates so well. But they are all so pretty. You may seat me wherever you choose and I'll be absolutely delighted! I'm heading to the kitchen to work on my little treats right now. Little rich chocolate brownie bites with a hint of mint frosting. I can't wait to get together. ~Adrienne~

  21. Oh please, I am a stranger to your blog, but I would love to come for treats. I love the setting with the blue flowers, but I am not picky and would be fine with any of them.

I just made a butter pecan cake, I'll bring it right over!

  23. from one CHINAHOLIC to another...you've made my day! How pretty. I just have to come on here and see what dishes you are featuring today. Myself, I just came back from a hospital thrift store and bought a beautiful old punchbowl with 12 perfect cups for only $6.00!!! Pinch me...I think I am dreaming!

  24. Mary,

Oh how lovely the table looks! The mismatched dishes are beautiful all together. I love the last set with the roses. I am on my way with cream puffs. I can't wait!

  25. Beautiful. My mom's friend from second grade( they're 77 now) is totally into dishes. I guess she is a "dish-aholic" too! She has weekly bible meetings, card club meetings, etc. and I think her favorite part of that is changing her dishes and place settings! It sounds like a "fun" disease; that dish addiction.

  26. Aren't thrifty stores just wonderful?! And then you have your mother's china, too...they're all beautiful place settings (you have a good eye for matching the previously unmatched)...I can't decide. Please do that for me. And, since I'm late to post, I see that there will be LOTS of scrumptious food...may I have a bite if I help to CAREFULLY wash those dishes up afterwards?! Don't trust that electric dishwasher...leave it to me!!! "Will work for desserts!"

  29. The last one is my favorite. One of our favorite Christmas presents was when my Mom gave us a service for 8 and nothing matched! Awesome! One time we had someone over for dinner and used the dishes. They just looked at the table with an embarrased look on their faces like, "what's up? Can't they afford a set of dishes?" They just didn't get it. That was a good 20 years ago. I was way ahead of my time! Love all your stuff all the time.

  30. What beautiful dishes! I find myself looking for pretty vintage plates when out thrifting and it is hard not to pass them by! I think the first one is my favorite.

  31. Mary:

I want all the place settings. I don't enjoy a table that is perfectly matched. I love mis-matched EVERYTHING.

What time shall I show up :)

  32. I have some leftover pastry for tiny tarts. I'll fill them with strawberries which would match the pink roses on the last plate nicely. Count me in!

  34. Love this...we even just talked about using pieces just like this when you entertain! Your dishes are fabulous...and what a fun luncheon, where we could discover the fun tale of the origin behind each one! We would love to pull up a seat!

Loved Rosie's comment about Penny!! If one chips or breaks...you will be set with a wonderful creation from her!

  35. Hi Mary. I'm on my way but it will take me a while to get there because I want to fly over to France and get some of those wonderful little tarts with the strawberries on top that you see in the windows of all the patisseries.
I'd like the plate with the blue (of course) flowers tied with a bow. Your china is so pretty and I love mismatched place settings.
Sure hope that your house can hold all of us!

  36. Oh Mary, I really would like the third one with the pretty blue ribbon on it.
I have some chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting to bring, they really need to get out of my house.

    Cute post.

  38. They are all stunning! I too love mixing dishes and glassware and silverware. It is more fun and much more unique!
Your settings are lovely, just like you!

Be careful now or Penny will scoop them all up and make delightful mosaics from them!! *laugh*

I will bring some of those sweet little tarts I posted recently...the ones from Dorothy Lane Market.
